Getting the hang of it
Hello
Looking to add another hab battery is it ok to use a lower amp
one (75 amp)with a 110 amp or should i get another 110.
Lindsay

Neither is ideal, they'll work but I'd buy 2 new matched ones (y)

Bigger the better if it will fit. You never have to much battery backup.

yes thats fine in an ideal world we would all use matched pairs in the real world what you already have is ideal

Battery thats on is a new 110 amp banner would another of the same be best.

Thanks I'll have to bite the bullet and fork out for a new banner :(

Thick cables when you join them together. That’s the limit of my knowledge of the black art of 12v . Haha

The most sensible option is two identical batteries bought at the same time that need no maintenance and then they will last the same length of time without one pulling the other down in terms of performance.

My five year old Banner batteries require occasionally topping up of water and have not been on hook up for some considerable time at home or away - the Solar panel does its job and keeps them in good condition and charge.

Any cheap option of getting different types of battery and amperage will give problems much quicker than you'd hope.

Thanks for all your wise words I'll get another banner and link l that to the one already in place.
Can't afford to get two new batteries together so that setup will have to do ,will be looking into solar panels when funds become available.
Thanks
Lindsay

More important to match the technology that the size in my view, you don't say if your banner is flooded lead acid or AGM but you need to pair with the same, you also don't say what age your original is if it's getting on a bit I wouldn't worry too much what I put to it and hope that they both fail together then you can start again.

As @keithchesterfield2 said make sure you check the battery level twice a year. Banner batteries are not maintenance free. I have two which are 3 plus years old and going strong but I will be replacing them in the next 3 months as we will be off grid in a winter trip.

If it will fit get another battery of the same size but I wouldn't get a Banner absolute rubbish batteries & they don't honor their warranties.

Lindsay - fitting a Solar panel first would be my priority unless you only wish to use sites with hook up.

A Solar panel, two leisure batteries and a refillable gas system and the World is your lobster.

How old is the original battery? How much are you going to have pay for another?
It could be false economy to buy another banner battery

Interesting lots of people putting banners down i was under the impression they are a good brand.
The original battery is about a year old and we've only stopped on sites with hook so never be really discharged ,but that's the reason for the second battery to get away from
being tied down to hookup.
May rethink and look a solar panel first.
Keithchesterfield2 have a Gasit 11&6kg system coming in the new year not sure about the lobster makes me violently ill :xsurprised:
All the best
Lindsay

You may be trying to solve a problem you haven't got.
Do you know how long your battery lasts without EHU?
Solar won't be much help in winter.
When do you plan to be off-grid, and for how long without moving-on?

I agree. We have one battery and solar and only use EHU when on a site where it is included. We don’t use an inverter though.
