I heard that you can add water into the petrol system witch increases the petrol consuption. What in it called?

There used to be somrthing advertised years ago in the Exchange & Mart. I think the high power Scoobys inject water into the intercooler for extra power. It makes the air denser, thats the reason your car seems to run smoother in the damp weather. I think it is called anti detonant

Oh yes I remember it now

Its called..." A good way of parting you from your cash whilst knackering your engine in the process with no comeback whatsoever for the conman that sold it to you in the first place" :Eeek:

Or something like that.....:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Im sure there are people on here that will say it works because of a..b...c... but come on didnt your parents ever tell you "If it sounds to good to be true, it probably is"???:winky:

keep your money in your pocket and spendit on petrol instead...you know it makes sense :thumb::thumb:

Can you substantiate any of the above or is it just old wifes gossip?

If you think of the logic, water contains oxygen, so it has to improve performance!

 This has been going the rounds every few years since the 60s (possibly earlier).

It works to a degree. But costs money to fit. Some kits much more than others.

How does it work?

Do you remember times during those Autumn/Winter mornings when you fire up your motor and it seems to have more power than usual?

That is water injection via the atmosphere.

Oh yes thats right water contains oxygen  Thats why they use it to put fires out isnt it??...sounds like just the stuff to aid combustion in your engine :Eeek:

If you want proof take the air filter off your pride and joy and get a water sprayer, then whilst the engine is running spray water into the intake :Eeek:

Let us know the results please......thats if your prepared to take a chance with your engine :thumb:

Sounds to good to be true..........................nuff said :winky:

During WW II, German Meschermitt engines had water injection for extra boost. It was injected into the pots under pressure. The oxygene burnt off leaving hydrogen molecules which then exploded giving the boost.

 Having been a Fireman at one stage in my life. We were taught never to put water onto a Metal fire. Why? Because it would explode. A similar principle is at work when injecting a fine mist of water into an engine. :winky:

Right then here goes

If it was such a well tried and tested system that didnt have any ill effects on your engine.....why havnt you heard anything about it??? :Eeek:

Why dont car manufacturers fit it to ANY engine they produce and why are we bothering messing around with complex turbo/super chargers on our engines when all we need to do is shove a bit of water into the mix??.

Id also be really interested in the kind of warranty the seller of the system includes and how the manufacturer of your pride and joy would react if you took it back for work under warranty with a fault on the engine with this system fitted

If it was that simple and effective everyone would have one fitted and it would be as common as fuel injection..........the fact that it isnt speaks volumes wouldnt you say??:thumb:

But if you decide that its the way forward for you then please let us know how it goes....after all a motorhome is the ideal vehicle to try it out on as it has an on board water source before you start :thumb:. Personally I will be keeping water as far away from my engine ignition system as possible and if economy was the key factor would be fitting an LPG conversion instead. :thumb:

Hi John

Thats really interesting, can you tell me what a metal fire is?? I wasnt aware metal was a source of fuel for fires or is it the environment that fire is burning in (e.g a metal box) that this refers to??

Cheers :thumb:

 Have you never seen Metal Wool burning? That is the wire wool used for cleaning copper pipe fittings in Plumbing.
Metal swarf from metal turning etc can be set on fire in a similar way to Metal wool. It is TRUE. That's how fireworks work along with gunpowder/explosive materials. :winky:

BTW. Flour along with Coal dust and other types of dust can be explosive if the right conditions exist.

Dazzer ??????????????

Ive been looking on the net and found this

Water Injection - A technical description

Its quite intersting but I would highlight this part of the text

In high pressure turbocharged engines the air/fuel mixture that enters the cylinders can, in some cases, explode prematurely (before the spark plug ignites) due to the extreme engine environment conditions. This situation is extremely destructive and results in severe engine damage (piston piercing). To avoid damaging the engine by detonation or pre-ignition phenomena, water is injected, along with fuel, in the combustion chambers in order to provide a water/air/fuel mixture which not only burns more efficiently and avoids detonation or pre-ignition but also provides additional inlet air cooling and, hence, denser air. The sole function of water injection is avoiding detonation.

Seems we were both right :thumb: but ill still not be fitting it :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Hi John

I do remember doing this at school but im sure it was in a high oxygen environment when anything will burn. And yes ive seen powders explode (custard powder is especially good i understand!!) but we are talking about water vapour not powders in this instance.

Anyway ive looked it up on the net and posted the article on here. Water is used to STOP premature detonation inside the cylinders of high performance turbo/supercharged engines and is of no use to a normally aspirated engine. Yes it was used on engines of German fighters but these were very high output supercharged beasts and was used to stop "pinking" NOT increase power or MPG. :thumb:

No,NO,No,

You need denser air, I sell this for ÂŁ50.00, it comes in a pretty eco friendly bag,all colours to match your motorhome:ROFLMAO:

It's also useful for being sick in when you recieve the bill for having ruined your engine:Doh::winky:

using the correct grade of fuel and keeping your engine well tuned, correct plugs, gaps and ignition timing always worked for me Dazzer.::bigsmile:

i put water in my engine but only where its meant to go.........in the radiator!!!!!:thumb:

Hi Dazzer,
I can give you a specific example of where it's fitted. Subura Imprezas Sti and Mitsibushi Evos. It's used to avoid pre-ignition in very high boost turbo engines. In the sti it's an atomised spray into the air intake throat controlled by a little switch on the centre console. It's actually very small percentages compared with air or fuel. I can't see it being of any benefit in the sort of engines fitted to a motorhome.
I'm sure I read somewhere about another forced induction engine that was using water to increase charge density increasing effeciency. Maybe Mercedes? So who knows in another couple of years, water injection may be common place.

Doug

Thanks for that Doug. Having looked it up on the net its a very specialised bit of kit doing a very specific job on high performance boosted engines, and as you say no use to 99.9% of the engine using public.

But im sure there are lots of people out there willing to take your money and sell you the kit no matter what you drive. The key point is though that it doesnt improve economy or performance it simply protects high performance boosted engines from pre-ignition and engine damage.:Eeek:

Its been an interesting thread though and id love to know if, having seen the facts anyone will be intererested in fitting one to their beloved M/H or even their car. :Eeek:

Looks like another scam to me to help misinformed people part with their hard earned!!
