Can the Ad Blue be topped up at anytime, or do we need to wait until the warning light is on?

I guess they would , the ones in the yard do. Unless it’s a place with a tank balanced up on a pile of pallets. Haha

I had an issue with a forecourt pump recently that overflowed my tank without cutting off. Be careful to wash it off all bodywork thoroughly as it will wreck it quickly.

Don’t wait for the light to come on, you don’t get very many miles after it does. (y)
Nah - that’s just you, Sapper520 - 1500 miles according to the Boxer manual…..;)

(best Clint Eastwood voice - ‘well, punk, do you feel lucky…….???’……o_Oo_Oo_O)

Peugeot possibly… (y) Fiat….about 50 miles before my ‘you can’t start your van once you’ve switch it off’ message came on. Ended up having a piggy back to the dealers to get it sorted. 🤷‍♂️

My car is telling me 2,000 miles I'm going to London and back, I will recheck when I get back, so far it seems very unreliable but no warning light yet

I don't have that issue with my 2020 MY Ducato. I did 500 miles after the warning light without issue. I do now carry a 5 litre container though and top up when the light comes on 'just in case' until I get to a bulk pump having read about your problem with it.

Out of interest does Adblue have a limited use/ use by date ?

I would fill up your adblue on your travels ,certainly easier and cheaper than the plastic 10 litre containers from retail outlets

The container I bought from Tesco’s said use within 6 months of opening, I think……..

Ours is a 2020 140bhp manual. We hadn’t put any in as we picked it up new and assumed it was full, and would get at least a 1500 mile warning like our car……but no, light came on about 50 or so miles from home so continued home. Once home, I topped up with the 10 litres as per the recommendations in the manual, followed the reset procedure, warning light stayed on. I managed to get about another 4 litres in but that was it. Light stayed on, so took it for a short drive to see if that helped, but the warning message of not being able to start came on…..parked back on my drive, switched off, sure enough she wouldn’t start.

Called Fiat Assist, they sent out RAC Commercial. The guy spent two hours trying to get it going, he had Adblue ’cascading’ out of the filler spout. Plugged into the van and found the fault messages…..still couldn’t get it going.

Ending up being put on a flatbed and taken to the dealers to reset. I top up every thousand miles, and she takes between 3 and 3.5 litres.

After having had a problem with our last motorhome, (Peugeot based), we top up our current, (FIAT based), one every 2k miles.

With the Pug the light came on and wouldn’t go off. We had to book an appointment with Peugeot to sort it.

Having checked, unopened, the Ad Blue will be ok for 12 months before degrading too much; if opened, this reduces to six months before degradation is excessive…….(y)

The production date is on the container……

You’ll be banned from driving in cities before us Euro 6 types though! ;)
(If you should ever want to drive in cities - I know I wouldn’t…… o_O )

I suppose not, we've had our euro 5 van taken off on a flat bed to the dealers regularly 🤣🤣
Only joking x
Just been to Southern Spain and back via the tunnel, 3600 miles. Topped it up before I set off and Adblue light came on 200yds from home, so I know it will do 3600 miles on a tank. No different to topping the windscreen wash.

On reflection the Ducato screen wash filler is in the most stupid position possible, so actually topping up the Adblue is far easier.

Always try to fill at a station as it's so much easier than the container filling. Dearer yes but simpler.
Had one jobsworth at a BP station on the A14 near Kettering tell me I couldn't use the AdBlue pump as it was for HGVs. I bit my tongue and resisted a full on response:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Aldi currently have And Blu at £14.99 per 10 litres ,called in to my local today and there is plenty.

10 litres of Redex adblue from Tesco was £10 6 months ago it's now £20

Filled to brim before we set off to Spain and Portugal for 6 weeks put 5 litres in half way through trip everything OK until we got off ferry at Plymouth when light came on topped up at the first station on A38 and it took 10 liters 3,400 miles, have bought 5 litres to lug around just in case as you never know when that light comes on . Local BP station charges £1.70 per litre which is expensive.
