I am considering purchasing a 2019 Pilote on the fiat chassis (AClass). The vehicle is 300 miles away and the seller not very knowlegable.
It is plated at 3160kgs and I need to know if anyone has increased this to 4250. If so was it just a paper exercise via SVTech.
Also has this vehicle a chassis extension that would accommodate a tow bar.

As regards the weight.....Not sure if you can do it by a paper exercise for that amount to be added? Its a big ask to go from 3160 to 4250? A Metric tonne? Dont think you can. :unsure:

Have you tried asking sv tech what they advise, we spoke to them at Lincoln show a while ago & were helpful.

Check with the dealer regarding the weight details as that seems a strange weight for a Pilote A Classs.

Even the smallest of the G series are 3500kg as standard. There is also a FOC weight upgrade option on first registration (or at least there was when I purchased a G740C new in 2016). Although I can't recall the exact upgraded weight FOC option, I seem to recall it may have been 3760kg or 3670kg.

In relation to the chassis extensions being ready to take a tow bar this may be a correct statement but I know when I had a tow bar fitted to my G740C, it required a strengthening kit fitted to be able to tow the toad properly and safely.

Are you sure your figures are correct I don't reckon it's possible to have an A Class at 3160 Kg.
That sounds like the MIRO for the van which will probably mean it's on a 3500kg chassis, these can normally be uprated to 3850kg but you may only gain part of the increase due to rear axle loading.

Sorry Lenny. Must get an inch taken off my fingers. It's 3650kgs now and want 4250kgs.

Many thanks. I'll ring them tomorrow. It looks unlikely. I know it's a heavy van so will check everything out. The dealer hasn't returned my call and the seller doesn't know.

If it 3650kg now,it,s built on a Fiat Light chassis, and will need rear Air assist to reach 3850kg.thats assuming your tyres are rated correctly)

4250kg can only be achieved if it was built on a Fiat Maxi chassis.

As has already been mentioned the most you can go to in its existing form will be 3850kg (1850kg on front and 2000kg on the rear); if you want to increase the rear axle capacity to 2240kg you'll have to do some modifications to get it, eg putting semi-air suspension on the rear and possibly tyre/wheel replacement too, but this will still give you a ceiling of 3850kg. There might be a chance of 4000kg in total by adding suspension support to the front (eg changing the springs, adding semi-air) but the only place the extra capacity would go is on the front axle (ie up from 1850kg to 2000kg) as the rear will definitely max out at 2240kg I believe, so as most MHers want the extra capacity on the rear there's not much point in altering the front.

As for hoping to get it up to 4250kg I don't think there's any way on earth you can do it, not even with SVTech's help.

Hi Wilf,

Just be aware that Pilote do not include 75kg for a driver in its MIRO so you'll have to add that to an already weighty 3,160kg.

Also, it doesn't include an oven (15kg), UK GRP Pack (10kg), awning, radio, solar etc.

The Pilote MIRO only includes a small gas bottle, 90% fuel and 20-litres of water.

My P740GJ was about 40-50kg over its advertised MIRO figure so.

If I assume your weight to be 75kg, and with a slight variation for weight tolerances, plus 2 x gas bottles, oven, awning etc then I reckon you'll have about 130kg of payload for your gear, passengers, water, bikes etc.

I woukd also had VB air-top to the rear as my Pilote was bloody dangerous when passing trucks, or being passed (due to the huge rear overhang).
