and our worst nightmare - just had a minor accident on our scooter.

So advice please.

i have a broken shoulder and one rib my wife has badly damaged right hand.

i can no longer drive and we will need to fly home

we have plenty of insurance - health/breakdown/accident, but nothing covers getting the motorhome home if hasn’t been in an accident.

so looking at choices, pay to it brought home which i imagine would be very expensive, and who do you ask.

i am also considering leaving it on this aire, but its an automatic barrier and payment, poss local council, so no one to speak to sort out.

so have have a real dilemma - advise please.

sorry no caps, using left hand

I would still contact your van insurers and breakdown people. They have the contacts in place and can communicate with them and you, and would hopefully be able to advise you on what to do.

Hope you get it sorted and that you both aren’t in too much pain.

We stayed in an ACSI campsite near Collioure, where you could possibly go and sit it out for a few days while you sort things out. I can give you the details if you want.

Best of luck.

I’m so sorry to hear this. The same thing happened to us in February in Spain. I don’t drive the van and Martin broke his shoulder in a scooter accident. We stayed put on the campsite we were on for 5 weeks until he was able to drive. I took over all the blue jobs etc.

No doubt you are still shocked, shaken up and in pain. My advice would be ”Rest up” take a few days until you are both feeling better and you can make good decisions.

We were extremely lucky that there were funsters on site who provided invaluable help. There may be funsters near you who could assist too.

I would contact your travel/health insurance and seek their advice.

Do you need to fly home , does the injury need medical care or time , if you're working you won't be and if you're retired you could stay

Get it taken to a campsite with facilities and live there until recovered , I assume the French have the equivalent of Asda home deliveries so getting food shouldn't be a problem

Whatever happens , don't leave the van unattended

would it be of any help if you tell us who is providing the different covers you mention? someone could then look at the websites for the cover terms.

For example, I know green flag european breakdown cover does include drivers taken ill / unable to drive.

Good advice re moving to a campsite - there are at least 2 in Collioure - we stayed at the excellent Les Criques des Porteils where I’d be happy to hole up to recuperate. I think the other is Les Amandiers then there are some more in Argeles sur Mer which is flatter.

Hi!
A bit in a hurry right now. I have more or less understood the OP had an accident and needs help with the motorhome.
Of course I can have it here no problem, only thing is I'm leaving on friday to visit my daughter in Rambouillet, and will be back on sunday evening.
Don't leave your van alone! Try to rest a bit so may be you could drive it to my place and then rest here. You'll be safe here!

Usually I give my number on a PM but let's make things easy for you!

Don't call between 1.00pm and 4.30 pm as toddlers have their afternoon nap, and if I speak loud , they will be terrible for the rest of the day o_O:oops::sick:

What about travel insurance (personal) would that not cover your repatriation with motorhome? Sometimes it comes free with your bank account and you dont even know youve got it

When we were flooded in Spain, this company brought the MH home.
Obviously the insurance paid but they(the company) may be able to give a ball park figure. They were very efficient and were based in Surrey.

Good Luck! (y)

Are you anywhere close to Montmorillon? Edit. I now see where you are and it is miles away from us. Hope you get sorted.

Would it be an idea for yodeli to phone the ACSI campsite in the morning and ask if there are any Brit MHers there they could ask to pop to the Aire to offer immediate assistance, just in a practical way, to get water etc. There may even be someone there who could drive it to the campsite for you so it is in a safer location.
We need to try and keep this on first page to maximise funster help if there are any in the area.

It is June so I presume the shuttle bus is running to and fro town at least. How about asking the police if they could help you? Or call the British Embassy to do it for you. They would carry some weight and it is their job after all. Mousey is spot-on; lay up for a bit and get over the shock.

Very sorry to hear about your accident and the consequences.

I had our motorhome transported from Alicante back home in the UK, during the pandemic, summer 2020. I paid £1,950 + vat.

The company was S G Haulage Ltd, based in Lincoln - they were excellent and the best price I could find. https://www.sghaulageltd.co.uk/

(I think Marshalls - which were mentioned earlier - quoted nearly £1k more, although they were helpful)

However, as others have suggested, in your circumstances, international vehicle recovery is normally included in your continental breakdown insurance cover if driver is incapacitated by illness or accident - so suggest important to check carefully.

Good luck.

I recall when my father had become incapacitated the RAC recovers his car from a car park. As others have said double check if you haven’t already done so and your insurance company (one of them eg health travel breakdown) will possibly be able to help.
