Hi everyone

we have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Italy, but on the return journey the bus started to make some clunking noises when accelerating & decelerating :whatthe:. The noise comes from under the engine , I am no mechanic, but is it universal joints or engine mounts?

We have a Fiat Ducato 2.8 JTD front wheel drive motorhome.

Thanks

Hi pappajohn

I have just been to try it, it knocks when in full left and right lock as well as forward/backwards.....should I be emptying my piggy bank ready for a trip to the garage?

thanks

Since 2005
afraid so.....not an quick/easy job even if you know what your doing so a garage is needed.
usually its the rubber 'gaiter' that splits and allows road crap to get in and destroy's the joint so the chances of it being both sides are pretty slim but still worth checking both.

Hi

After a few visits to various garages I took the Motorhome to Barnes in Reading, Berkshire.
Link Removed (Recommended by Fiat in Basingstoke)

They are a truck place but also specialise in Fiat and do Fiat Motorhome servicing.

They instantly diagnosed the problem as the rear engine mount, it needs replacing, perished.

£42 parts + 1 hour labour ~ £70 + VAT = pleased :thumb:

a common problem with Ducato's apparently.

cheers!

Exactly, I had a 1000 mile trip back from Italy to ponder how expensive it might be!
Relief... and good to find a local garage who specialise in Fiat, another garage I went to want £100 to invesitgate the noise
