My insurance for the van is with caravan guard and includes recovery. I am also in the AA, have been for years.
Anyone know if the AA recovery service will cover my Van ? Its a Hobby T550fs, 19ft long x 7ft 6inches wide (5.76m x 2.29m) max weight 3500kg.

Just thinking for when insurance renewal due, obviously will be cheaper without recovery.

cheers

Check but I believe both the AA & Rac give cover on all vehicles up to 3.5 ton it is over that when you need to specify vehicles and possibly be a member of a club like c&cc.

All the best Rick

The AA Certainly cover that length and weight, but I understand the RAC do have a limit unless your membership is via the C&CC

safeguard use the AA

Safeguard insurance include recovery with the AA .. and I am 5.5 tons

I think they farm it out to specialised recovery companies.. I know in Kent Mick Gould who has a fleet of yank recovery trucks and a big Foden low loader does the work for the AA and has taken many an RV home or to there workshops.

Second time around.
The RAC won't recover on your car membership

I know because I asked last week when looking at taking out Comfort insurance and it's a bit of a scam. They will only cover up to a certain length and age on normal membership, so I would have to keep paying my normal membership as well.

Can't remember ;)
Hi both AA ad RAC will recover upto 3.5 ton -you need C&CC membership for RAC Arivals which have no size limits The AA have recently changed the limits ,Easy way is to ring and ask them what they cover and to send it either by email or in writing-that way they double check before putting names to written bits :thumb:
Last yr I had a problem with RAC Arivals when I asked if I needed to still be a c&cc Member as I had a month before renewal. They told me as I was a member at time of taking out cover I had no need to renew C&CC membership to get Arivals cover (LIE) WHEN I ASKED FOR IT IN WRITING ten mins later IT SUDDENLY CHANGED :Eeek: you have to be a member or they can only give roadside assistance no recovery :Eeek: To say I was not pleased with the verbal info is a understatement-I could have payed thinking I was covered when in fact I was not :Eeek::Angry:

:Eeek:Yup, they WILL recover you up to 3.5 tons.........as long as age and length stipulations are met.
Yup, mick Gould is a contractor, as are we and many other independant recovery companies, AND, we DO attend jobs with the vehcile requested to find out that its not a fiat ducato van, but a 26ft fiat ducato based motorhome with a tag axle which we cannot recover with the recovery truck we arrived with.
What happens then, is that we bill the club for a second attendanve with the right vehicle, which in some cases is..as Bob said....a LOW LOADER.#
Now if anyone thinks that you can get that for £45 a year from Tesco's......have another think, because the club will wriggle out of it if they can, and a low loader cost's aminimum of £65 per hour base to base.
Just as an idea, to collect you from southampton and deliver you to croydon, would cost nearly £400 PLUS VAT.
breakdown cover is INSURANCE, read the small print, be double sure you are covered.....or have a healthy bank balance:Eeek:

All I know is that I am with Comfort with RAC recovery. I broke down in France last year and needed recovery. My van is 4.6 Tonne and Rac recovered me to the nearest Merc. dealer for repairs. They also provided 2 nights hotel and taxi fares.

Pete:Cool:
