Hi,

I'm new to posting here though have been reading over the last few months. Hello!

My husband and I (and our dog) are planning a year long adventure in a motorhome through 2018. We have spent the last few months sorting out career breaks, marketing and getting a buyer for the house, working out finances etc and now comes the fun part of actually getting a motorhome!

We are hoping to explore UK and Europe with regular trips back to our home county to visit family. We are getting ideas of where we want to go when but want to keep it all quite free and flexible.

Exciting times!

Moose :)

Take your time choosing the Moho. Plenty of advice on here but only you know the approx size you need.

Yes, we've been researching and learning for a few months now. Been to a couple of shows, been around various dealers.

We offered on one earlier today but it wasn't accepted as the dealer said they said never negotiate on prices. As it was worse condition than advertised and has been on the market for a few months we offered slightly less than asking price but they turned it down. We thought it would be like car dealers where there is some negotiation in price but apparently not. So we'll keep looking.

Welcome. Hope you soon find something suitable. You are looking at the right time of year. Once next Spring comes the prices will be even less negotiable. Good luck in your search.

Go to the Lincoln Motorhome Show this coming weekend - dealers there will be looking to unload used models at the end of the season. Good bargains to be had at shows.

Their loss , especially at the end of the season.
Keep your money and keep walking , as heaven knows how crap their after sales would be with an attitude like that.

I'm just reading Jim's Motorhome Buyers Guide and just read the bit where he says "Never rush to do the deal today". I'm glad we were able to stick with offering what we had planned even though it was 6 hours driving round trip and we spent the best part of 2 hours checking over the motorhome. It was frustrating but at least we learnt quite a lot.

So yes, we'll keep our money and keep walking! We don't need to move into the motorhome until December so there is still plenty of time. :)

It is just as well they didn't accept our offer as today we put a deposit on one SO much better with all the accessories we would need for our adventure. It is great!

Don't believe a word of that! We got money off both our mohos. We got 10% off the display price of first second hand one. And the new one (ex-demonstrator) we bought we got almost 20%off list price.

But they will only start doing that when they know you are serious about buying.

But they will only start doing that when they know you are serious about buying.

They knew we were serious about buying - it had taken us 3 hour to drive there and would take another 3 hours home, we'd been there checking it over, asking questions etc for 1.5 hours. We asked to talk about money, gave an offer (9% under, there was more wrong with it than the advert said) and they said no offers, asking price or nothing and just walked off. No negotiation, no even trying to keep us interested etc. But then we knew more about the motorhome then they did just from the time we spent looking around it. We even had to explain to them how to jump start the engine from their battery jumpstarter (after he said 'oh it doesn't matter if the battery is smoking'...)

In retrospect we are glad we didn't buy from them as there was a lot wrong with the motorhome and the dealers might have been a pain to deal with.

Luckily we have found a really nice one, so much better and it it is fully kitted out with everything we could need and want (and actually quite a lot extra)!

Moose :)

Not long enough!
Who was selling the van??
Good luck planning your trip.
The only advice i can offer is avoid anywhere hot in the height of summer. 45° in a van is no fun.

The one we didn't buy was at a dealer. The one we are buying is a private sale.

Yes, avoiding the heat is important as we don't like anything above high 20s. Also we have a dog who would get to hot. Current (vague) plan is Spain, Italy, maybe Greece from January till spring. Scandinavia in June-August. Scotland, Ireland, Alps, Holland, Germany, Austria, in the rest of the time. Oh and England too ;)

We got our motorhome today! :D

It is a Hymer B774 2004 low bed configuration (which seems to be really rare) and it comes with every accessory known to mankind...
