We have done 1300 miles in France and Spain in the last 2 weeks and seen 4 Brits in the whole trip!

( Dozens of NL though)
Paul I assume :) how's retirement treating you? Would have said hi at the National, oh there wasn't one, maybe next year.

Exactly - that translates as four twenties nineteen, as opposed to a simple ninety nine. It just gets harder after soixante neuf.

"It just gets harder after soixante neuf" - it certainly does, matron.

One of the staff at a peage asked me for an amount ending in 'neufty neuf' a few years ago. Was still chuckling about it 100k down the road.

We like Moissac too.
Smashing aire and the little gate at the back takes you out to the canal and a nice walk into town. (y)

Richard.
Thanks Richard. Trying to decide tomorrow night's stop - roughly half way between here and our final night (Montreuil, La Mailleraye or Embry - still to decide). It can’t be too far north or we’ll hit the next band of rain - thinking of your suggestion of Lurcy-Levis.

Grianan........... Thank you for your great photo's of your fabulous trip around France. You have done us proud, and it is so nice to see so many positive comments relating to this lovely country, when so many others are queueing up to knock the place.
We have travelled round like you, and as people who live and work here in France, but are originally from the UK, we have always been made to feel totally welcome, be it here in the Dordogne where we live, or on any Aire, vineyard or wherever we stop.
Full marks to you both for a great PR exercise!
Come back soon.

Is that by the canal … it looks nice but I wondered if it would be muddy after the rain they’re due to get tonight?
It should be ok , if you keep to the side not on the banks of canal , like I am in the photo , my rear end on the left , those on the right are on the banks of canal

It may have puddles but it’s mostly fine gravel so not usually muddy.
Sancoins does get busy though so don’t arrive too late, particularly if you want to be beside the water.
Do try Lurcy-Levis though, I would like to hear a second opinion on it.

Richard.

Penultimate stop at Lucy-Levis.
By the time we got here we were done with driving and what a lovely little aire!
I love that we drive through tiny French villages with huge spread out play parks and sports pitches … this aire (thanks SO much Clarky for the recommendation) is on the side of a beautiful fishing lake. The only noise is the birds and the wind rustling the leaves. You can walk or cycle round the lake and the track links up with other cycle paths.
Thé town is a bit run down but it sports a well stocked supermarket and a boulangerie. We’ve already been in and organised take away breakfast and lunch for an early start tomorrow .. So just the two photos today but I hope you get a sense of the place.
Oh, and PLF complete and uploaded yo Eurotunnel. Couldn’t scan our vaccine QR codes from our paper certificates but they did scan from the TousAntiCovid App on another phone … oh the irony … 😂

Our final stop over this side is Montreuil. We visited on our last trip 2 years ago but the aire and car park were full so we slept at Embry. Today there’s still one space left and the car park is empty. The town though was heaving this afternoon.
I’m hoping there’s a market tomorrow morning so we can visit before heading to the tunnel. Breakfast in a cafe would be nice too 😉.

We are home later today after a round trip of Belgium, Germany and France. Stayed on 5 sites in the two weeks only saw ONE UK motorhome/caravan. Also spent hours trying to sort out documents for Covid and Day 2 tests - what a fiasco!

As well as French being a foreign language it also has dialects, much the same as UK. We've lived in France for 7 years and still struggle in our rural locality in the Dordogne where they speak a mixture of french and occitane. Fortunately our nearest neighbour is a retired school head mistress and speaks some english, but this tends to make us lazy to learn better French.

Enjoy the halcyon days Lenny; I’d be lying if I said we weren’t yearning for retirement 😂
You'll certainly enjoy being able to take longer over a trip like this, it seems like a lot of driving in 2 weeks.

A final memory, the market yesterday morning. Can’t believe we’re home now, back to the humdrum tasks and getting ready for work tomorrow. At least the sun is shining and the sky is blue here in the west of Scotland.
