For the first time since I bought my classic Hymer (1987) eight/nine years ago it has FAILED its test on an under performing, near side, rear brake.

Straight back to the garage where Micha has removed rear wheel and drum.

Slightly leaking brake cylinder... just gone off to get spares...

Test station shuts at one o'clock.

Will we make it in time for a retest...

A race against the clock.

My head hurts...

No spare parts available so an attempt was made to spruce up the old cylinders...

Race back to test station to try out the bodge... but still not able to pass...

So new cylinders will be ordered (both sides of course) and will have to come back.

Each re-test cost €8.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I like jobs like that, no added complications of sensors, just a hydraulic piston and brake shoes. simple and very effective and can be fixed nearly anywhere

Thats a bugger mate.. But once done it should be good for another 80 years !

While you are at it replace the linings as they will be hardened in that time . You will get better friction , and higher readings . If you do don't forget to bed them in before retest .

€8!!! Yet another reason why Portugal is such a good place to live. Ours failed too this year (with more than one thing :( ) and it was a lot more than that to retest. Pain in the bum though x
