A question with regard to transfering data from one phone to another.

I want to clear a Samsung S8 of everything in its memory using something like Samsung smart switch. My question is, if there is already data on the donor phone will it be affected or deleted during the transfer or just have the new data added to it. Thanks....

I reckon it will be like transferring data to an SD card..... Just adds to what's there.
I used phoneclone to do mine.
You need the app on both phones but it's just 2 clicks, one on the old phone, one on the new one. Grant all permissions to transfer all data.

I think when I did my Sony phone to new Sony phone it warned me all data would be removed on the new phone and replaced by the old phone software. You could do a backup first....

Thanks pj I want to be sure before I do it as I really don't want to put it at risk. I think it might be better to get another new Samsung to use as a data base. This is something that is not made very clear in all the info video's, they appear to be geared up for transfer from old to empty new. Thanks...

You could move all the old data to SD card/s as a backup then remove the SD.
Time consuming but you'd know its safe

I gave my wife my used samsung s8 when I got the s10+. I used the samsung software to transfer all data from her old phone to my old one. All my data also survived the transfer, so her "new" phone had both her data and mine
