A pub stopover between Glasgow and Newhaven?

We are heading off towards the end of August to catch the Dieppe ferry. We live north west of Glasgow so that’s something like a 9 hr trip. We’d like to break the journey and do it in 2 days. Anybody have any fav pub stopovers they’d like to share not too far off the M6? Maybe down around Lancaster - but open to suggestions. I have search4sites but just thought it might be nice to hear of any stops others have enjoyed.

I think I would try to get a bit further, at least past Birmingham for the first stop.
We stopped at a farm just off the M6 near Rugby, they had a fantastic restaurant/cafe for breakfast in the morning.
I'm sure it was called Manor Farm, but I will try to find it for you.


Edit- it was Manor Farm, we parked in the car park adjacent to the shop/restaurant and not the camp site itself. I would ask if that is still available as you're travelling through so just need one night. There's also a little pub less than five minutes walk away .... Several Funsters, who live local have been there for Sunday Dinner !

A word of caution...... One of us who stayed there managed to spend quite a lot of money in the farm shop the next morning and might still be there if I hadn't took her purse off her 🤔🤔

I used travel to Alloa a few times from Plymouth so tried a few pub stop overs around halfway point select a pub make a call, or just turn up before sfs era a pint or two some scran. (Before the days of chips in a little bucket & beans as a side pot)
Mostly good some not
One or two invited to join pool team 👍

I know it’s not quite as far as Lancaster, The Metal bridge hotel just next to the M6 between Gretna and Carlisle.

Th'Owd Tithe Barn at Garstang, just south of Lancaster is a nice pub. I think it has been mentioned on Fun before.

Off at jct 33, down the A6 and back on at jct 34.

I agree with this, try get a lot further down. We use that ferry and travel down from Leeds and it's a longer drag than you think. Remember you've got the m25 including Heathrow and also past Gatwick and it can really drag on.
I'd say get well past Manchester.
Depending on your preference there are some good CL sites not far from M6 or M42 around Solihull. We used Lady Lane Marina recently which was great.

Dumfries to Portsmouth - not a lot shorter than the distance from Glasgow to Newhaven. We stop at a CL just off the Oxford ring road. As our first holiday day we like to get the bulk of the miles through England done with only a couple of hours to the ferry the following day. We even treat ourselves to the M6 Toll Road for an easy trip through Birmingham. Also if there are hold ups on either day then we have plenty of time to allow for them without panicking.

Oh for the days when we could do Hull to Zeebrugge :smiley:
