Staying at Cabopino for a few weeks. Our 4th time here and find it an excellent and safe place to stay. However when I decided to decant my grey waste water into my Waste Master I realised my Waste Master was missing. Luckily my wife had noticed someone struggling with a Waste Master a few pitches away, and when we approached the chap it seemed like he thought it was OK just to take anything he needed from another person's pitch and claim it for his own use!
Wish my French was better, so that I could explain some general campsite etiquette to the chap.

Yes he put it back, so I'm happy with that.
Life's too short to flustered over it.
Might be worth chaining it to your MH, or at least using a rope, so it is obviously yours otherwise you could end up inventing a new variation of hide and seek! 😄

I have got to admire your self restraint.
I’m sure that the staff in reception may welcome the intel that there is a thief staying on their site .

I had a fence stolen from my garden once upon a time (long story) The thief eventually brought it back, and the police told the thief couldn't be charged, as theft is described as 'taking with the intent to permanently deprive'

TWOC would cover this , taking without owners consent.
If this wasn’t the case a thief could simply say I intended to return the stolen goods .

What about a toxic waste sticker to really get the message across. 😄
Hi.
C/van days.70-80's, stopping on/at Matly Wood near Lyndhurst.( Forestry/Comm site then ) Couple were there in a converted single decker coach. " Chinese 6 ? axle layout " ,on the side it had. " Poisonous Snakes on board. No Anti Venom Vaccine carried " The site was not very busy and we struck up a conversation at the water point. They had toured most of North Africa and Europe and said about " Wild camping in Spain " Parking overnight on Industrial or building land and observing where the concessions were Ice cream/deck chairs etc on the beach. At night they would go down to the beach and relax with a meal and drinks and with the sun on his back he " Metal detected " the beach areas. He said he often found enough change for a drink and had exercised at the same time. If my memory serves me well,i think he had a business to do with Pram shields ? Super couple.

Far be it for me to side with the wine swilling, garlic breathed, rugby following (Oh! that could be me!!)
But;

When we were in Spain last year, we stayed at more than one camperstop that had wastemasters for the use
of occupants so that the van didn't have to be moved.

I'm not saying this niff naff made an honest mistake but it's just possible he/she did.

Somewhere on French motorhome fun there is thread from someone saying, “typical Brits, having their own wastemaster, I looked a right knob when he caught up with me and he must have thought I was nicking it”. 😂

Of course. Unfortunately language was a barrier in this case. Gestures just weren't enough for either of us fully understand the situation.

You were almost certainly conned by an inefficient, or insufficiently trained, Police Officer. The intent that counts is the one at the time that the act is committed, so unless he intended to give it back when he took it (hard to prove) there was a chargeable offence there. I once dealt with a situation where a guy got fed up with the neighbours kids football regularly coming into his garden, damaging his prize petunias. He wrote to their parents saying that if it happened then he'd keep the ball for one calendar month before returning it and sensibly kept a copy of the letter. Further plants were damaged so he carried his threat out. Dad wanted me to arrest him for theft but there was definitely no case to answer. The neighbour wanted me to charge the kids with criminal damage to his plants, but there was no provable intention there either (though he had my sympathy as I wouldn't have wanted to live next door to this particular family either). Neighbours!

Do what I’ve done to all the stuff I leave outside my van. Cover it it various places with your reg number but use an ultra violet pen! That way the thieving scum won’t know and all you have to do is walk about after dark with a UV torch and quickly find what’s gone walkabout. (y)

Nope, (and yep) that's specific to motor vehicles, an amendment to the Theft Act needed because a frequent defence was that when the vehicle was abandoned it would eventually be returned to the owner, hence no intent to permanently deprive them of the property.

Back in the late 60's, I shared a large suite of rooms, just off High St, Kensington, near the Joe Lyon's cafe, close to the Olympia underground bridge.
Near that junction lived a man (in a large fairground travelling van) who worked for Chipperfield circus and during the winter circus shutdown, he looked after the snakes. One of which was this massive python that had the habit of looking out the window. He too put a sign on the door, 'Danger Snakes, you have been warned!

He told us, when we were drinking together in the Crown & Sceptre, he never bothered locking his door!

That could be a long walkabout on some sites 😁.
