Has anyone used an A frame in Europe in recent times. We pull a Smart car and before COVID and Brexit never had a problem.
Can anyone advise on the current state of play in France and Italy

A frame towing in Europe is illegal, that's why we sold our toad, only way to take the toad in/across Europe is on a trailer.
If you tow on an A frame and get stopped, the toad will have to be taken off said A frame and driven independently of the moho

Not advisable if you do get stopped I hope your wife / partner can drive because you may end up both having to drive to your destination
The only sure proof way is to get a small trailer or do as we used to do and hire a car at your destination
