I'm sure this question has been asked 100 times can you use an A-frame in France Italy and Sicily. As we are planning a trip to Sicily in the end of January. And I was thinking of towing my smart car with me. I know in Spain and Portugal it is illegal and you will be stopped but I didn't realise this applied to France and Italy, are not seem to get a defined answer to this question.

Just like Spain, you may or may not get stopped.
I reckon it depends on the individual coppers knowledge of the law and if they can be bothered or not.
Spanish plod appear to be having it force-fed into them at the moment.

There are more & more A frames on non UK motorhomes.
The Italian police have enough to do with other things like Coffee breaks sleeping etc.
If you do go make sure you have two drivers just in case

Thanks for the info have been told it hit or miss whether you get stopped or not. I remember going through Yugoslavia some years ago he just took a carton of cigarettes with you. This got you at most things but I believe the French are much more expensive LOL.

....and 1,000 euros to pay the fines if the Police Officer decides to stop you for breaking the traffic law in his country.
