Who should I go to for the supply and fixing of an A frame

If you search you will find a whole range of recommendations and prices.

We are going to TAF at the end of this month but our choice would not be the same as many people.

Used one for 2-3 years, tugging a VW Up! We limited ourselves to UK and France, as we had heard Spain and Germany weren't keen on the concept. I got a chipless key (from a Timpsons) for the VW so as to free-up the steering lock and to stop someone breaking into the car and starting the engine. Reversing was a bit of a pain, as the car's wheels just pointed whichever way they wanted. Get a couple of small plastic chocks to ensure the car didn't disappear down a slope. Apart from that, I had no regrets; oh, fuel consumption went up a couple of digits, but nothing to break the bank.

Depends if you want over run or electronic brakes?
Hi, thanks for replying.. looking at both at the moment and can’t decide hence looking to see what people prefer. Looking at Tow-Bars-2-Tow-Cars (electronic) and Taf (over run)

I have a TAF one which is very nicely made and not hernia inducing.
Whichever type you choose make sure it attaches to a proper towing frame at the front of the car, not the original towing eye points. The towing eye points are not designed for the the stresses and strains imposed by an A frame.

Electr

Electronic if you can afford it.
The brakes work in tandem with the van brakes so reversing is less of a problem.
Over-run is inertia instigated and when reversing it can apply the toad brakes, especially reversing uphill, making it near impossible to reverse.
Due to the cars steering geometry the front wheels will ALWAYS turn the opposite to what you would expect, when reversing, putting even more load on the cars brakes.

Well I have owned both of those Taf is the best over run on the market but the woman in the office is a bit mad 🙂
I would not worry about reversing as it’s impossible to reverse more than a few feet before the wheels go on full lock, we have had towcars forever 10 years and never met anyone without exception who could reverse one of these under full control no matter what anyone says!

Towbars 2 towcars although twice the price is also a good product with good service.

We currently have a LNB one on our present car that we bought when six months old we had a few compatibility issues with our Iveco (electrics) but once I sorted that out also a good bit of kit.

I use a Towtal with an RVi Brake unit which sits in the drivers footwell connects to the foot brake pedal and is powered from the cigarette lighter socket. It is electronically adjusted for towed car size and sensitivity . There is a remote unit that plugs into motorhome for constant monitoring and testing in use. Limited reversing is possible with this unit.
This unit could be used with most non overrun a frames.

Towbars2towcars get my vote. They converted 2 Abarths' and a Mercedes SLK. Did a great job with excellent technical knowledge and brilliant customer care.

I like the look of the RVi Brake device but could not find a UK supplier. Did you import yours from the USA?

Yes I bought it direct from the maker and it was cheaper than getting it from Towtal who had fitted the A frame but failed to supply the RVi unit.
This was a few years back so what prices and delivery are now I don’t know.

Edit: Just checked price is £920 , how much shipping is I don’t know so if interested be worth e mailing them for estimate.

BTW there is also another similar unit from the US called a Brake Buddy which I have no experience of.

In my opinion you shouls try http://www.tow-bars2tow-cars.com/ . Our current and previous toads were supplied by them and I'm happy to recommend them for their knowledge and quality of service.
Ditto that. They are our one and only but have nothing praise for the company. We have had no issues at all With ours.👍
