After passing through Kent many times we've decided to try and see a bit more of the area around. On our list are Chatham Dockyard, Leeds castle and Chartwell but also like to park up and be able to walk by the Sea etc.

The regimented behind hedges Caravan Club sites don't tend to do it for us so we prefer places like Canterbury, we know we can also stop at Chatham and there are a lot of pubstops around but wondering if anyone has any particular recommendations for places to visit and stay, we re up for a relaxed site with nice views. We re looking the last week in may so just before the half term.

Thanks in anticipation

If you fancy it a ride on the Romney, Hythe and Dymchuch narrow-guage railway to Dungeness Lighthouse with a walk by the sea there and good fish 'n chips might be on your list.

Geoff

[EDIT] If you need anything for the MH and are going near Canterbury we can recommend Choose Leisure not far down the A28 from Canterbury towards Ashford, easy to find on a corner. We once called in without an appointment, got an external lock fixed in an hour. They have a big site and workshops, only odd thing they have to ring upstairs for spares, but seem to locate the right thing and it appears quite quickly, seem switched on.

The RE museum is worth a visit and walking distance from the Dockyard. If you're a member of the CCC there is a rally by the river at Bow Bridge Marina, nice walks along the Riverside to tea pot Island. Buses to Maidstone. I believe you can now stop overnight at both Herne Bay and Reculver.

That sounds like a nice idea Geoff

The Herne Bay one sounds nice, its says 8m but looks a bit longer, we re 8.3m.

8.3m should be fine at Reculver, I'll wander down the front tomorrow with a tape measure and check Herne bay sizes 👍

the pitches at Reculver are on a steep slope and the ground is awfull to use ramps weve stopped going there for that reason if you have hydraulics it will be fine, Herne bay is cheap to overnight but quite expensive if you want to stay during the day we use canterbury park and ride a lot its central to the sea in three directions 20 mins
you can also park overnight at sandwich
they have put no overnight signs up along most of the kent coast now but it only applies to the seafront so we often park in the roads down to the front obviously with a big rig its more challenging

Definitely recommended.
Parking at the Hythe end is quite small but you can park free alongside the Royal Military Canal on both sides of the road near Sainsbury's. There is parking on the other side too but more yellow lines.

Another recommendation for The RE Museum. Haven’t been for a few years, they’ve done a lot of work there since our last visit.(y)

Unfortunately that meet has been cancelled. The rally is now at Greatstone Primary School, Baldwins Road.

We had planned on going to the Bowbridge Marina meet but had an email recently to say it's been cancelled and changed venue. Dates are also slightly changed - now May 27th - 29th and can't arrive until 5pm because it's at a school.

Herne Bay
Had a measure-up. My glasses case is at 8.3m. You'd get 9m in there easy.
Cheers nige

Worth a visit to the kart track in Heron park also great carp fishing. Visit Dungeness lighthouse and Lydd airport. Plenty of lay Byes sitting back from the road. Oh and a must is the dymchuch and Hythe railway (miniature) by Lydd airport there is a very old church with loadsa history. Enjoy Kent 👍🏼👍🏼

Hi.
Only driven past Leeds Castle wintertime at night working,it was floodlit and looked very nice. Keep meaning to go back at my leisure in the m/ho. Check it out.
