Confirmed newbie!
Hi all, relatively new to the group, and searching for our first motor home. I'm looking for something with bunk beds for me, the wife and our two kids age 8 and 6, and we've got a budget up to about 25k. I'm fairly tall at 6'4", and I fancy the idea of an A class as it has the extra head room in the double bed. I looked at a really nice 2004 Hymer B class the other day which I'm very tempted by..... but at 6'4" (1.9m) I'm worried about the size of the drop down bed as its only 190 x 135( a standard double in the UK is 190x140, and a queen size is approx. 150 x 200) Is there any one on here 6'4" or over who has any experience of the drop down bed in a Hymer B class, and if so how do they get on with it? And secondly are there any other A class MH's out there with bunk beds and a bigger drop down bed? Thanks all!

I'm just over 6' and found my Hymer bed had no room to spare. You will not be able to fully extend your legs at 6'4". I might be wrong but I don't know of any MH with beds over 6' long. There is the possibility of sleeping diagonally of course.

I don't think A class is the way to go.

I'm 6ft2 (square) & my wife is 5ft11 so we feel your pain.
After much experimentation & expensive errors we discovered that sleeping across a coachbuilt motorhome was the perfect solution.
The u shaped lounge on the Kon-Tiki we have is 6ft6in long & very wide.
Its the first time we've truly been comfy in a motorhome or caravan.

I think to get a motorhome with bunk beds for the youngsters you'd need a moho with bunks at the back & parallel sofa's behind the cab (middle) which can make up a bed.
Not too sure which models of motorhomes that'd give you but, it should point you in the right direction.

Robert.

Thanks guys, I'm not sure that my wife would agree to letting me sleep diagonally! :ROFLMAO: I know that quite a few C class have longer beds in the overcab bed, I was just hoping that Id find an A class that I could get in and out of more easily. We were hoping to find something that let us put the two kids to bed in separate beds (8 and 6 year old boy and girl so they need to be separate!) and still have somewhere to sit in the evening and have a glass of wine! I guess we may just have to re-evaluate our expectations!

We have a 2012 Hymer B544, I'm 6'4" and sleep okay in our drop down bed, the later beds in the 2011 onwards are slightly bigger .

How about putting the kids in the drop down bed. There is a net to hold them in and you and your wife have a transverse bed at the back. We have two singles in ours that can be made into an enormous transverse with fill in cushions.

An Auto Trail Cheyenne from around 2006 may suit with the kids in the overcab bed using the side net. the facing settees would give you and the missus either two really long singles or a 6ft by 7ft double... separate shower too.

Welcome to the happy nut house!

We hired a MH last year with two doubles and tried putting the kids up top..... but they spent all night playing / arguing / fighting ….. anything but sleeping.... And even when they did got to sleep, they woke each other up at 5 am and argued about who had woken who up!!
I think two separate beds is the only real option, as my wife rather unreasonably wont agree to having both the kids in with her so I can stretch out!!:ROFLMAO:

Thanks all for your replies, saw another b524 come up on eBay last week so went and had a good look. This one had all the current owners bedding stripped off so it made it a bit easier to have a good wriggle around in there and to check the size! And I’m pleased to say I fitted in quite nicely..... and the current owner was 6’5” and had owned the van for 8 years without any sleep issues!?? So the van is now mine, and we’re looking forward to our first trip away!!???
