I was right in the middle of posting something thought provoking and COVID/media related and my wife cut right through it - and I thought f&£k it

she said “ I had a lot of difficulty finding the horseradish sauce at tescos tonight . Almost ended up with tartar sauce again (3 jars already) .

love her :-)

The duchess does that all the time. It’s a great way of focussing on the everyday things that matter in life. Think you can change the world? Forget it!

Good girl first things first !

according to a news item. some supermarkets are (due to a technical error) forgetting to include the ordered Turkeys on some deliveries. One customer was sent a substitute of turkey stuffing, others got nothing.

The joy of on-line supermarket shopping.
My mates wife is an order picker at Sainsbury and they are told to pick items close to 'sell by' date and substitute anything which looks/sounds similar.
She had to substitute lemons instead of oranges..... Still fruit but a different colour.
If I couldn't get to the shops I'd begin with the carpets and work my way up to the curtains before on-line ordering.

.... or the Anusol and Anbesol confusion...😂
Anusol can be confusing for a biker........but my word, they don't 'arf shine!

I ordered cotton wool pleats and got cotton buds as a sub from Sainsbury’s. I returned them.

I am looking forward to my Waitrose order this evening, I’ve finally worked out how to do the no substitutions bit but only by going back in after completing my order as though I’m changing it and I think I may have forgotten to do it this time! Fingers crossed for those almond croissants for breakfast on Christmas morning, I want the No1 range not some feeble dried up husk of a Basics croissant.

You should get the French frozen one's from Bookers, we have 30 at a time in the freezer and they really are the best croissant we've tasted outside of France

Agreed, frozen are the way forward at any time. ALDI croissants done in our new Ninja air fryer are quite brilliant!

I already go to the gym 5 or 6 times a week, I’d have to go twice a day. I wish you hadn’t told me that!

I tick to decline all substitutes, I decide what I want not someone else
I do decline some substitutes on the order but yesterday they substituted my 4 pints ordinary semi skimmed milk with organic and my 600ml double cream with 2 x 300 ml organic double cream. As they refund the difference in price, I prefer that to having no milk or cream at all for Christmas . I also got Sainsbury’s seeded wholemeal subsby Hovis seeded wholemeal. I left “allow substitutes” ticked for the Guiness as perhaps they could have sent bottles instead of cans. This is the first time since March that I have not had an acceptable substitute.

We have our milk delivered the old fashioned way in pint bottles and during this pandemic have had some basics like cheese butter have to say it’s rather good so if you do have a milkman and have not done so have a look at their other dairy produce if it’s like ours I can highly recommend it.

My favourite fail on online food substitution was when the instant coffee we ordered was not in stock.
the substitute? - nothing, no alternatives available???????????

I have tried a few times, most latterly with someone who came round door to door saying they were starting up. They had online ordering so seemed quite easy to set up. However, I told them that the reason I had given up on previous delivery companies was that I didn’t like milk being left on the doorstep when I had cancelled it and if that happened, I would stop. Unfortunately, it only took a few weeks before we had our first week away and I came back to 6 pints on the doorstep. The milkman had not even had the sense to check whether cancelled for the week and to stop adding them once he found the first 2 not picked up.
To be honest, I prefer the convenience of a 4 pint carton because 2 can fit easily in the fridge door, and when going in the camper easier than having bottles to clank around and bring back.
Even so, If they could sort out their deliveries I would prefer to pay the premium and have bottles rather than plastic.

Duxette has Milk'nMore deliveries. Except for the episode when local naughty lads were stealing milk deliveries from the doorstep in our area, (why??) the service has been excellent.

Totally get what you are saying about the deliveries, we have been fortunate in that over the years the Milkman has a 99.9% (for over 30 years) delivery before 7am. Milk and More took over the delivery services and I think they are conscious of the need for accuracy, no complaints from here, if we were getting late or missed deliveries it would be a different story. I feel sorry for the delivery guys as I know they are delivering between 2:30 -4:30 in the morning and do a great job.

My Daughter ordered a turkey from Sainsbury’s - they didn’t have the size turkey she ordered and so they substituted it............with a bigger turkey (no additional charge)!!!!!
