As per the title.. We usually go the Somport tunnel route to Spain but I have seen a couple of reports of the snows already making things dicey
Anyone gone that way yet ?

I am a novice at this and would really appreciate any and all advice on the best route from a Eurotunnel crossing arriving 9am Friday at Calais.... We are >3.5T so slow but also assume Paris will be busy so a longer route may be better?

Don't go anywhere near Paris. Go via Rouen but don't go into the city centre, stay on the N28, go through the big tunnel and then choose which way to go. I go A13 paris to N154 then towards Evreux Dreux -

Your main choices are whether to go toll or not and this will determine your route. I tend to do a mix and match depending where I'm heading.

if tolls are important get one of these as it will show you the workable routes with/without Tolls. You can set a satnav do this but it will avoid all tolls even short ones that are IMO worth paying like the one past Bayonne.

Edit, any decent french supermarket should have one.

Use this web site to check out snowfalls in the Pyrenees

To focus in on snow fall in the Somport area checkout the snowfall for the Astun ski resort. It is also a good idea to use Michelin Traffic to check out the Somport Tunnel route.

Check weather once your down there. I often used to look once I got past Bordeaux as it can change very quick. It can be lovely and sunny at orleon st Marie and then snowing just down the road. Be aware it's known that compulsory snow chain signs can be put out at the local bobby's discretion. 👍

Nowt too terrible yet then.. a few flurries that are melting away...
Agree but even if there was a heavy fall, the snow ploughs are pretty swift at clearing the road plus there are signs just after leaving Pau which advise whether the tunnel is open or closed.

From Pau it aint too far back to jump on the D430 ( NOT my favorite road LOL ! ) so its all good

Answering the specific question in the thread title I can with confidence say it won't be raining or snowing in the tunnel, but will be dark if the electrics fail.
