90 days or more in Europe

There is already a long thread on this - the short answer is you are unlikely to be able to do so. There may be some negotiated concessions

you will need a visa or member state passport

From what I understand they are reluctant and it is nearly impossible to get a visa over 90 days just to extend a holiday, it will have to for something important, not just that you think that your holiday is important.
Best Wishes Tony

Visa for over 90 days is for work or education. It is given by each country , not EU wide.
Might change , all depends on the small print of the next (few?) years of negotiations . It might hinge on what our future visa arrangements are. But not an issue for member states of course.

I don't think that anyone will have the inclination or the ability to enforce it.
You are probably right.
I know that EU countries are toughening up their customs/ border control technology and every person entering a Schengen country from a non Schengen country will be registered on their database. How they will police that database remains to be seen.

It is possible to have residency in an EU country without having a passport or citizenship for that country.

Residency means you are treated as a 'National' of that country for taxation purposes, not a path to follow just for an extended holiday.

Residency seems to mean different things in different countries and the application process is also different from what I have gathered.

I have a document issued in Portugal which states that I am a resident of a town in the EU, it is not possible to apply for citizenship or presumably a passport until I have been a resident for 5 years.

The only way that we will know for sure is if or when we leave, there are lots of second home owners that will need some way of using their properties without changing nationality.

There are many that are already in Spain that can't get an appointment for residency, I think the reason being they are pensioners relying on the S1 for healthcare, and that may or may not continue, if it stops I can see a large proportion of old age pensioners returning back go the UK. ? Bob.

Where are all these people at calais coming from then?
I think, in our case it is the vehicles that will give us away.

Last winter tour we got a speeding fine in France, when re-entered France again in July there was a delay at the customs while they checked the fine had been paid, which it had. Had that speeding fine been from Spain would it still have been picked up in France, who knows, but they do have the technology in place to make those checks.

Is that 90 days in just one of the EU countries, or can you do 90 in France then 90 in Spain?

What happens with ROI as we have a bilateral agreement if you visit Ireland (Rep) for 89 days are you only allowed 1 day in rest of Europe ?

I very much doubt that the French have the technology to connect with the other entry exit points around the EU, its a lot of Kilometres when you think about it. Can they even link up with the UK entry points to the mainland, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium etc? I doubt there is either the method or the inclination to develop it for the relatively few tourists that will overstay.

If there was no enforcement, why the passport checks? What's the tens of miles of fences and hundreds of police? Why do the camps exist?

A small proportion of people are slipping through illegally, but it's tiny. And, I can't see any motivation for the French to improve the security of people trying to leave their country if there's no deal.

We have been in France 30 days now, seen about 10 police in passing, once you are there who is going to know how long you have been there especially if you do a week or two in Spain or somewhere.

In France you must be registered for tax and have an address and have healthcare in place either have a french Carte Vitale or private insurance minimum to get a Titre de Sejour

It is more an issue with entry and exit.
