enough to know i shouldnt touch things i know nothing about ....
i have started to fit an 85cm sat dish to our motorhome (Adria 670 SLT) but have run into a couple of 'issues' to overcome.

firstly - the footprint of the sat dish when laid flat doesnt actually fit anywhere within the 'railed' area on the roof, as it stops the main roof window from opening fully - my solution is to remove the rail that runs across the front and refix it (rivet nut gun on order for tomorrow) further along, which then allows the sat dish to be fixed to the roof (sikaflax onto a well prepared surface !!) and rotate without obstruction.

secondly - when fitting previous sat dishes (this is my third) i have always positioned it so that when the dish is housed, it folds down with the hinge mechanism pointing forward, im my mind so that any wind when travelling should travel over the top and not underneath (hope that makes sense ?) however, due to limited space on the roof, i have to mount this one with the hinge parallel with the side of the van. it wont create a wind block when housed for travelling. Does anyone see an issue with mounting it this way? i intend replacing the rail which will interfere with the travel/rotation of the dish if i position the dish in its preferred orientation. of course i could just not put the rail back, but that would be cheating LOL !

The dish isn't in its final position but shows the orientation I will be fixing it in.

Can you not move it to a central point in front of the opening light and run the cables across the roof?

Thanks for the suggestion, i could but then when the rail goes back, it will restrict the movement/rotation of the dish. i could leave the rail off, but don't really want to. before i fix it i will elevate it and ensure that it can achieve full rotation,

Are you mounting it sideways?
Thanks for the response, i think i will have to as i dont think i can mount it in the recommended orientation, do you see a problem if i do it that way? i will know more when i have elevated the sat dish in order to determine its final location and will obviously try to fix it in the recommended orientation if at all possible.

another issue i have come across, is that although the vehicle has been wired for a sat dish, and i have located the cables behind a panel above the fridge, i dont know where the other ends of the cable go to/can be found (inc the green cable for ignition off)

With it behind that hump in the roof I can't see it being too much of a problem. You could add belt & braces and fit a length of aerofoil in front of it designed for air deflection in front of rooflights.

I know that with Alden and Oyster its a no no and could affect the warranty, it 'may' affect the warranty so why not check with the manufactures technical department?

But as Lenny has pointed out, you could always add an aerofoil and the hump should help

Thanks, its well out of warranty LOL - was purchased 'pre loved' from a member on here - after i saw it working of course !! as has been pointed out, so long as i reduce the wind effect getting under the dish and reducing the potential of 'lift' by using an aerofoil of some sort i think it should be ok, i still havent given up fitting it in the correct orientation yet though.

i have now managed to raise the dish so i can check the rotation doesnt cause any issues. i have also managed to mount it in the correct orientation. it means not reinstalling the rail across the front, but that doesnt affect anything in terms of structure and i would rather have peace of mind than a rail ....

i will leave it 24 hours before installing properly in case someone comes along and tells me i have cocked up big time by removing the rail !
