So where would you put the line there will always be some just about the same that weigh a bit more!!!!!!
Unfortunately The Minister of Transport (who probably hasn't a driving licence) would not be lowering himself to ask the likes of you or me that question..BUSBY

I very much doubt this will reach 10000 signatures for a response, never mind the 100000 needed for debate.
It's too much of a niche subject.

there was a time when only passing the car test allowed folk to drive any size bus or coach without a test, if not for hire and reward . that sort of went in 1991 unless they took a medical and proved they did drive buses etc.
the rules have always been daft.
seems most of the motorhomers with big campers cant reverse them or go down non main roads anyway. hee hee
There are plenty that struggle with FIAT 500s,,Driving test has always been too easy..In my opinion,BUSBY.

Did they not discuss about raising the 3500 limit for vans if they was electric as the size of th Batteries ate in to the pay load so making them not viable.

Signed but don't hold out much hope.
Iveco tried to get the EU to raise the weight for electric vans EU rejected it.

That’s only for motorhomes over 3.5t, so I think they should be classed as lorries and treated according.

No signature from me.
Very selfish of you considering there is often no difference in a lot of vehicles that are over 3500 kg to the 3500kg version just the plate on it.
Also very difficult to buy a 3500kg van with enough payload to be useable.

Perhaps for anyone caught overweight it should be an instant ban. That would get 75% of Motorhomes off the road.:)

They were discussing raising to 4200kg for electric vans but reducing the tow weight to 850kg (I think) which makes no sense since C+E entitles you to a great deal more total weight.

Electric vehicle batteries ARE NOT classed as payload under current regulations.
They are a necessary part of operating the vehicle.

On and off for many years.
I'd like to see all drivers have to take a medical and hazard perception test at 60 / 65 / 70 or whatever. I know this won't be popular but could well make our roads safer.

The money raised (as it won't be cost free) could be used towards better public transport.

And pigs might grow wings and fly.

Signed. Having just gone through downplating my van from 3850 to 3500kg aged 70, it’s a ludicrous situation to think I am driving the same vehicle albeit at a lower weight with less payload. Then again I could fit a tow bar and tow a car upto almost 6000kg where is the logic. Leisure vehicles need a separate category.

Then to make it more bizarre you have to pay more Road fund Tax

The ONLY way the licence level will be increased at all is to 'accommodate' the electric vehicles due to the weight of their batteries, however if this is done we can then use it to claim 'bias' and have the level raised for all licences as there will be no way they can claim someone is safe to drive a 4250kg electric vehicle but not a 4250kg petrol/diesel one.

Yes but they are still including the gross weight at the moment aren’t they ?
Technically yes.
The batteries are excluded from the Unladen weight of the vehicle then when added as payload brings the technical unladen weight back up to what it would be with batteries (a pointless exersize, you aren't going anywhere without batteries so technically they can't be payload, they are essential to operating the vehicle)

Payload is only the difference between MAM and actual vehicle weight so I can’t see it makes much difference to the end result. Weigh the vehicle and what is left is the useable payload.

Mh 6yrs ,caravan 30yrs ,7.5 ton 50yrs.
Why all this fuss about B and C licences ,do what I did , downplated from 3,850 to 3,500 and tow a car or trailer in the EU, because at 70 yrs old I have neither the time nor the inclination to try to take on the dvla.l suspect it maybe because some are not as good a driver as they would like to think.
