6v vs 12v vote

Would you bother changing the 2x12v 110Ah for the 4x6v 225Ah batteries for just 1 month?

I've got a cherry picker that uses 4 Trojan 6v 225Ah batteries and motorhome with 2 grunt 12v lead acid 110Ah batteries. It wouldn't be to difficult to swap over the 6v batteries to the Moho and there's plenty of space and payload available. Which would you take on a months off grid tour of France/Spain in Sept/Oct? We have about 400 Watts of solar and we don't try to hard be frugal with that electric stuff.

What about amps v volts? Less volts equals more amps.
Each 6v battery is 225Ah which is the about the same as 113Ah at 12v - so 4 No. 6v batteries would give us an equivalent of 450Ah at 12v vs the current 2 No 12v 110Ah giving 220Ah - so 6v would be double the storage

For the last 5-6 years of ownership of our last MH, we had 2 x 6v Trojan T105s, which gave excellent service, accompanied by a Sterling 50A B2B. They only needed topping up about twice a year, which wasn't a problem, as I had easy access to them.

Whilst I'd have 6v Trojans again any time, unfortunately I can't easily access the 4 x leisure batteries in the current MH, so have gone for totally maintenance free batteries this time. The downside is that I am now restricted to 50% DOD, unlike the Trojans which could be taken far as 80% DOD, without damaging them. I thought they were great batteries. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I would without doubt. The 6v blocks are traction solid batteries. They have a date code stamped on each, if they are not older than 4years, then I would swop them subito.

Your voltage was to high and using to much water. You should have a absorb voltage that allows top up 3-4 months, 2months if cycled heavy. High voltage boils and gassing more, plus accelerated corrosion on positive plate.
