I'm an oldbie MH number 9
I want to replace my batteries with two trojan 225 ah 6v batteries....

By linking together I'm aware this will give the 12v required but how many amps will it give? 450 or 225?

I can't remember

Answer: In the SERIES CONNECTION, batteries of like voltage and Amp-Hr capacity are connected to increase the Voltage of the battery bank. The positive terminal of the first battery is connected to the negative terminal of the second battery and so on, until the desired voltage is reached. The final Voltage is the sum of all the battery voltages added together while the final Amp-Hr, Cranking Performance and Reserve Capacity remain unchanged.

225 amps.
In series the voltage increases.
In parallel the amps increase (capacity)

So you either get 12 volts @ 225 amps (in series)
Or
You get 6 volts @ 450 amps (parallel)

In your setup To get 12 volts @ 450 amps you will need 4 batteries.....
2 batteries wired in series and in turn both pairs connected in parallel.

Edited...

Yes Paul in simple terms the 2 x 6 = 12 and the 12 is already 12 -Chargers etc will only see the one big 12v (y)
