4g router- might be a numpty question (1 Viewer)

Been using Huawei 5577 in the MoHo without antenna, and using a 3 ‘internet with legs’ sim. Service is ‘mixed’ but adequate for mobile use

If I get a fixed 4g router( such as the one that 3 would supply with a contract) plugged into mains and with bee-sting antenna, will my speeds be noticeably better?

Not technical at all, and aware that many on here indeed are.

If you mean a normal house BB router, then that needs a hard wire to the exchange.

Your Huawei 5577 probably is 4g but you may just have a 3g sim. Remember that you'll only get 4g where it's available. I link my Roku stick, used for free view, live tv, netflix etc routed through my 4g phone. I place the phone resting on the rooflight frame, so the signal has only got the plastic/perspex to get through rather than the metal sides of the pvc. It works great without an ariel using EE.
Try putting your existing router in a similar spot. You may be surprised...

Not technical at all, and aware that many on here indeed are.

In a word, no.

If the antenna is inside, it’s inside. An external one would be a better bet.

That would work if you do it right,
Some routers have a 4g fallback setting using a 4g dongle.

If you’re talking about the Huawei B535 router, I’m running one but with a roof antenna.
They run off 12 volt and I power mine using on of these to stop over voltage

I went for th3 router because I thought it was more suited to constant use.

I also use a B535 in the van with external mimo antenae. I have the router mounted on the wall using a bracket designed and printed by PaulandChrissy Power is supplied from the 12v socket in the van with a buck/boost voltage stabiliser. These routers hate over voltage and will fail if plugged straight into the van 12v socket when the battery charger raises the voltage to over 12v (often 13.8v but can be more than 14v)

I have a 4g mifi without an external aerial. The signal was so/so. I purchased a router with sim input and an external aerial... The improvement was barely noticeable and certainly not worth the £150+ cost of the new bits so I returned them. The set up may have improved had I mounted the aerial higher up but it seemed to make no difference in our location even when stuck outside the window.
