There was a recent thread on here regarding someone insisting you need 16amp whilst on site.
So we are in South of France and were recommended to try 4amp.
So we have:-
A small outside fridge
Maxxfan
Up right fan
Lights
Phone chargers.
Main fridge on gas.
All ok not tripped. Granted not much power drawn but we are not struggling and managing perfectly ok

Your main fridge is unlikely to draw more than 1A: mine is only just 0.6A.

IF you have easy access to the circuit breaker perhaps you could give it a try?

Personally I'd just look on a 4 amp supply as a battery charger. Depending on rating I'd not use a microwave, or electric kettle or let the wife use her heated curlers.

Why pay for electric then use gas for your fridge?
However if you plug all your other trammil in at the same it will trip.👍

Been on sites in France with 3 amp! OK if you are sensible and know about watts and amps;)

We only had 3amp hookup at the Orange Grove camperstop at Albir we managed by being careful
The battery charger and fridge were ok

I was just stating its doable not

because imo it works better on gas its 35* down here. Just my finding no real evidence or .calculations . And regards my original post it was just stating its doable on 4 amp nothing else.

On the RV I wired a socket up to directly feed the 50amp battery charger, theirs a changeover switch under the fridge to select the 230v ring or the direct feed.
I can then run everything from the inverter except the roof A/C and no worries about tripping the ehu.

Used 4 amp in Ireland - no problem (space heater, fridge, charger) but then we don't go on holiday to see how much electricity we can use.

4a was not a problem with same items as Simon - until we forgot and put the toaster on. The site 'warden' was not amused.

Isn’t it watts divided by voltage equals amps? Wattage normally on appliances. When home you can get a clever plug that displays in watts. Just switch each appliance on separately. For fridge etc plug main cable into it. Make a list of results

Just remembered i can use the toaster now. Better not. But to be fair the site just said try 4amp and if no good try 6 amp no problem.

I have one of these,

You just clip a sensor around the hook up live and then it is all battery powered and RF communication, it reads what you are using and I then have two displays one inside and one out where I have the induction hob, I use it on the inverter cable so I can keep an eye on it and make sure we don't go over the 3kw, it updates every 10 seconds and you can set up an alarm alert as well (y)

Funflair. What’s it called please

Thanks. Out of stock currently

Fitted this meter in our van, had to wait for it coming from China, couldn't find one in the UK. Been very good, got a KWH counter on it too 👍

I work on the basis of just under 250 watts is 1 amp. Seems to work for me. Haven't tripped a bourne for years :giggler:

Indeed there are lots of options to be fair, but I try not to buy from China and I don't buy from Amazon:LOL:

We've used 3 amps quite often in France
but we have Solar so the charger stays Off
the fridge is on
the water is on gas as and when needed
we don't use fans (We stay outside where we can)

With solar use in good sun then 240v is fridge only even in England

The Victron Inverter/Charger Multiplus comes into its own in France. Adjust the setting from 16amp to 4amp and job done.

Another that has managed perfectly well with 3 amp hook-up in France, though not seen that small supply for a while now.
