Hymer
We have just recently purchased a Hymer MH and would like to look at having a 360 degree camera system fitted. I have one on my car and it is brilliant it was already fitted when we bought it. So looking online this morning Omni vue and V Tech seem to be the main units out there. Any of you using either or are there others to consider ? TIA 👍

Where is the camera mounted on you car or are there 4 cameras with the images stitched together ?

Had ours for 5 years now , wouldn’t buy the hard drive recording again if replacing but would buy again and would have a display monitor on both sides as recent members have done

Yep have omniview 360
Four cameras fitted well in a day at home.
Takes away angst of reversing in the tight lanes of Wales and makes driving solo abroad much safer.

I was convinced to fit when a Range Rover undertaking me on a roundabout was in my blind spot.

V happy.
Have hard drive as well but only of use in an incident I guess.

Indeed we do have the cameras, omni vie 360 HD digital 👍 no recording as it wasn’t available on HD when we had them fitted but do keep thinking about it.

Hi did you fit it yourself?

Take it the recording is just for the same as a dash cam ?

Hi did you fit it yourself?
you kidding me!

The idea that I'd drill into mr trucky's body gives me the heebee geebees.

Two nice chaps came and did it all. They take great care to avoid water ingress.

The Dometic one is the best that we have looked at when we were considering which units to stock

I guess so but can be set to record all 4 channels so you don’t miss anything.
Interesting question of the day:
Is the omni recording legal in Austria? Dash cams are not.

Who did you get to install it ? Cheers

Have the Omniview same as Martin, handy for sure but I seem to not use it as much as I thought I would preferring to use the mirrors and rear camera a lot.

Obviously a lot better vision for very tight spots and seeing the rear of the van.

It was organised by omniview. They seem to have a network of trusted fitters.

Interesting indeed, and I don't know the answer but I would wonder how anybody would know that there was a recorder hidden away somewhere unless you tried to use it as evidence of course.

I never ever use our reversing camera now, to the point that I wish we had never had it fitted but I guess its a spare if the 360 ever went down.

I know the rules in Austria but I’ve had dash cams and bike cams all the time in Austria since I got knocked off the bike in Austria in 2013. I wouldn’t know the implications if I tried to prove my innocence in an accident, I guess the English insurers would be glad to see it, maybe not the Austrian insurance side🤔

That's what we had fitted, don't think it is the cheapest, works well and would not be without on a 8.5m van, only complaint is that it does not remember the date stamp for recording, when turn off for a while, goes back to the year 1999, must investigate again, as it may have been wired wrong!!!

Take a look at the Motorhome Retrofit channel they have fitted 360’ cameras to MH.

We have it fitted. Very professional bunch and the system works well. You get the default set images presented on the display and you can scroll through three alternatives as you are driving if you want another setting.
You get both 2D and 3 D images that allow you to view an aerial view of the van while you are driving.
Great for seeing what is in your blind spot. We are left hand drive and had a few near misses when joining motorways. I guess RHD would have the same problem in Europe.
You can also have a switch fitted to run as a surveillance system at night running off leisure batteries recording any intruders.
Never looked at recording yet but plan to by an SD card as couldn’t see the need for hard drive
Expensive but good.

How much did it cost for the camera system and fitting

€10,000 fine first offense & I think it's €22,000 2nd offense and that's just for having one.

Following this thread with a great interest as it's something i'm definitely considering

can anyone post any installation photo's please, say one or all of the cameras, the actual monitor itself with camera images showing and possibly one of the recording device

eddievanbitz

may I ask what were the reasons in possibly going for the Dometic cameras apart from dealer margins already in place possibly, what made to think it was better than the others?

thanks Al

I seem to remember about £2400 but we had the extra screen fitted on the co driver side and everything has gone up since then so best to contact them.

Reliability, quality, back up, warranty, spares etc

Many people moan about Dometic but most of every Van on the road is Dometic or a Dometic subsidiary

Eddie, do you sell the Dometic system on your web site - not to buy but to have fitted? I can't see it.

Hi No we don't sell or install any of the 360 cameras

To be perfectly honest, we are so busy that we just don't want another product, one where the installation will vary so much from vehicle to vehicle, it makes planning the workshop diary really hard.

I've got a new van on order and will probably fit the Dometic system to that (well, get VB to lol)

I've got it on my Landcruiser and I must admit it makes manoeuvring so much easier
