Looking at getting a full 360º camera (Birdview) system installed on the new van, something like a Caratec or Dometic (or other) but would like to get some idea on prices for a system installed in the UK as we could get it done when back in the summer. Just had a dealer prices here and even i was surprised but i know it’s a labour intensive install.

Anyone mind sharing the prices they’re shelled out or had quotes on ?

Off the top of my head without checking mine I think £2k now without the recorder.
This would be the HD set up if you’re not worried about HD then there is a saving to be made.

trailer vision are the ones j used and I think their prices will be on the website.
They normally say 2 days to fit, took them a day and half on mine.

Come on put us out of our misery how much in Switzerland?

DavidG58 had one installed i believe?

Same as Martin but £2500 with not very user friendly recording, that was nearly 6 years ago , but looks like it’s not moved much

Didn’t you have 2 monitors funflair

That’s a good idea and wish I had thought of that , one each side like looking in mirrors

£4500 for the Dometic which as a kit is around £1500 so £3k for the labour itself🤔

So it’s either UK when back in the summer or a trip to Germany.

Ouch!

I've seen Martins in action. I think its good but it does seem a big investment to basically cover a few blind spots, the retro fit also involved quite a lot of dismantling and fishing. I've achieved a result that I'm pretty happy with by using 3 fairly discrete cameras and a 4 way monitor on the dashboard. Ok its not as polished as the camos but it works well for me.

What cameras did you use Jon?

I bought them off the guy who used to do the shows because I wasnt sure what went with what. I think to do it again I might be tempted to pay a bit more attention to resolution but works pretty well

I just had the 360 HD 3D with 10" Monitor installed by TrailerVision (£2,270) Excellent company to deal with and a brilliant bit of kit. Recording is easy; all 4 cameras record to an SD Card which can then be popped out and viewed on a PC/Mac using VLC player. Also had it set-up so I can record when I am parked and away from the van via a switch on the dash to run the system off the cab or hab battery.

Yes we have the two monitors David ;) ours was the first time they had fitted two and they were a bit sceptical when I asked but they loved it, you can also get a 10 inch monitor now, I thought I might use both but it's Jen that uses the one on her side and likes it, there is also a 3D HD version now but I haven't seen that in action.

Very expensive, but if you have one of those massive coach things a good investment.

I am not sure it matters what size the van is it just makes life easier, we have it on a car and it's great.

How precise is it Martin? If you were manoeuvring next to a low wall on the right side, how close would you feel comfortable?

Front and back a couple of inches for sure, I reverse up to our garage and get that close, the sides are most likely the same but I would use the mirrors if it was that close, the overhead view is a squared off image so if you were bothered about just a front corner for instance a camera looking down would be more accurate but again I can see the corners in mirrors if I try.

That's the van step in the image even though the roof is just a generic image so you can imagine that the black outline will just be a couple of inches clear, when reversing the rear image changes to reverse camera and you can see your own bodywork.

Made in Korea not China Jon ;)
