Hi All.
I uprated our motor home earlier this year to allow us to carry a bit more weight.
Obviously, it’s a paper exercise and didn’t change the category at that point because of not exceeding the permissible weight and not too bothered about the Road tax saving either.
My question is, as it still a 3500kg vehicle to all intents and purpose, can it be sold as such because the class hasn’t changed but can be changed if required?
Thanks in advance.
Steve

If you want to sell it at 3.5t I would imagine you need to reverse the Peper exercise. But that's just my interpretation

If your V5 still states 3500kg but you have the paperwork from SV Tech @ 3850kg you could sell it as either.

Legally it’s still a 3.5 ton
Something wrong there then.....

I think it does change the category.....

It only changes once you’ve requested the change at the dvla.
Whatever is on the V5 is what it can be sold as.

Mine is 3.5t but I have all the paperwork approval for 3.85t from SV Tech. It’s still 3.5t until I forward the paperwork to change.

3850Kg is classed as PHGV it should be classed as such on the V5 and have a plate stating the weight on the vehicle.

Thanks. I kind of thought that.
It’s due an MOT.
Do I wait for the buyer preference and MOT accordingly?
Thanks

I'm confused as to why you would pay SV to do the paperwork then not send off your V5, did you need to uprate or have you been using the van up to 3500kg?

I have but wanted the ability to change if I needed to quickly

We were just about to do a European trip and didn’t want any queries at the toll booths. 🫣
We’re back now & will get on with the DVLA shortly. 🙂

Mr Colpot I was just going to ask same question....
Would the police/VOSA not go by what they have on their records, ie what the V5 says regardless of any other paperwork you may have to say differently?

So - in the unlikely scenario that you are stopped by VOSA/Police and you are over 3500kg how would you explain it?
Well I’d been on a weighbridge prior to this with worst case scenario loading and it was 3300kg.
So it was virtually impossible to be overweight to be fair.
