Hi all and a Merry Xmas.
My Wife has just received her 3rd !!! passport, Irish. Can we travel through Europe for more than 90 days, because of her Irish passport, even though she is a UK resident ?

I've tried looking for a clear answer but didn't find anything on that specific question.
Cheers

Regarding the 90 day+ rule, we contacted the Consular Division, Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin via their website enquiry email - websiteenquiry@dfa.ie - and asked a similar question, we both have British & Irish passports and but live in UK, so wanted confirmation that we were OK to stay longer. They were very quick to respond and confirm.

May I suggest you contact them for clarification and peace of mind like we did?

The answer is YES....

..........but you will have to behave yourself and take her to expensive restaurants, because if she decides to go home you could be left as an 'overstayer'

[Not strictly true as the time with your wife does not count to your 90 day allowance, which starts when you start travelling solo]

Residency isn't relevant.

This has been done to death on MHF over the last few years.

Have a search around and you'll find lots of subjection, moaning and some useful information such as here :

Check the insurance. Not all will cover more than 90 days.

If u are traveling with a eu spouse u just need to know what each country residence rules are. Most are 90 days but not sure which (check). Just leave country for 24hrs and then return and time clock start again.
With or without spouse but best of luck explaining if u are traveling on your own.

Whilst this is true if you are French or a permanent French resident , driving a French vehicle it is not true if you are a Uk national & resident, using dual nationality Irish or other passport, driving a UK registered vehicle. The vehicle is treated same as 3rd country .

Where I , as a spanish permanent resident can enter any eu state I can do what you suggest. When I enter the uK I have the benefit of 180 days myself before having to leave & return after 24 hours to reset the clock. The vehicle cannot return though as it is only allowed 180 days in 360.
Same as if a spanish or french person resident in the UK returns to there home country driving their uK registered vehicle. They can only stay 90 days without rescinding there UK residency & uk driving licence. If they do they then cannot drive the UK registered vehicle as it is illegal to drive anything other than a vehicle registered in your home country.
I have just spent the last month working on this & contacting various national authorities.
