Just went to local calor supplier to get a 3.9kg propane for the small cabinet in our new campervan and was told that calor are discontinuing them. He said 6kg are smallest they are going to do now.

Has anyone else heard this? I’m off to flow gas tomorrow to ask them

We've got a 3.9kg propane in the garage, which I think might be flo-gas? Had it for a long time. Not sure whether I've ever seen a 3.9kg Calor, but from your post, presume they used to be available.

I have a 3.9kg calor, full, which I've advertised on here. Transporting it is the issue. But I can't believe they'd discontinue them. If that's the only size you can fit in, that's what you need. There's the patio 3.9, not sure what brand, that you maybe could use. I went for an underfloor tank, anyway.

As said before on here... somebody heard they are selling out to Flogas... True maybe..False also maybe.

I have 3 bottles 2 fixed to the van and a spare bought it from calor at the southwest show

Read on calors site when the fuel prices went north that they are transitioning to green bio gas production at a plant in Holland.
The reason their prices haven’t risen compared to other forms of fuel is they are not buying so much from the oil industry where propane and butane are a waste product.
Was on a site Glanllyn near Bala in Wales who had loads of different size bottles for sale.

Just had a look on the Calor site looks like they have dropped the 13kg as well, just the 6kg now which is the size most caravans use. 13kg is the most popular with Motorhomes, that's going to cause problems for a lot of people.

Border-Reiver they still do the 4 5kg butane that is the same size & will work until the weather gets cold. You would need to change the pigtail or regulator if a bottle top.

Thanks for all the replies.
Got one 3.9 propane from flow gas no problem this morning. Good point on the 4.5 butane the old van had calorgaz butane and it worked all year round, although we weren’t out in extreme cold.

All sizes still available for refill, not for sale as a new customer, don’t go to the which size do I need part of the site.
13Kg are usually in the commercial size range.
I can’t understand why people buy calor patiogas bottles they are way more expensive than the orange bottles per Kg of gas. The bigger the bottle the cheaper the gas.

As a ex calor dealer the 4.5 and 3.9 and the 13kg propane and 15 kg butane are both the same size it is just the weight of the gas inside the bottle so size wise are interchangeable.

Hi Border-Reiver - the Gaslow 2.7kg refillable cylinders are another alternative if Calor / Flogas become hard to obtain / exchange.

We have two of these cylinders plus an external filler in our Expedition 66. Much cheaper per litre / kg than exchange bottles.

How are you getting on with your new van? We've had our 66 for nearly a year - now spent somewhere approaching 130 nights in it - with 90 of those in France, Spain and Portugal as a shakedown test!

Barti Ddu, thanks for that, need to read up on Gaslow. Its such as tight space for 2x 3.9kgs or the 4.5 butanes the Gaslow cylinders look smaller which is good.

Love the van, had a couple of initial issues to sort, there was a recall on the Ducato clutch master cylinder (clutch pedal sticking down and not fully returning) but got that fixed last week. Currently got an issue with no hot water as I can't clear the lock-out on the Whale controller, awaiting a warranty repair.

Have e you considered an underslung tank as 2x 3.9 is not much gas and will cost a fortune in exchange bottles.

A two second press on the black reset button has always worked at resetting the Whale heater for us whenever it's showing the red exclaimation mark, except for one occasion when it failed to reset. I therefore turned the entire 12v system off on the Sargent consumer unit, and all was well again. I'd try that if you haven't already.

Two Gaslows fit in the locker fine, but the extra hoses make it a squeeze in there. Our external filler is on the nearside plastic side bumper adjacent to the locker. Looks smart. Refillables are cheaper and much more convenient than exchange cylinders. If you intend going onto the continent then it's the only viable option really. I can post pictures of our installation if you're interested.

Update on this thread.
The initial 3.9kg I got from Flowgas is a wide diameter one and definitely only get one in the tight space. Getting near empty so went back and the guy at Flowgas said they have various sizes and a taller slimmer one might fit 2 in the container. So go a different size but too high so angle in small door opening, so cut down the metal container, refitted new rubber seal and can now slide both in so I'm now set up with 2.

Calor definitely discontinuing small bottles as so few in circulation, apparently a Calor guy told a supplier near us that during COVID there was huge surge in sales and people either dumped them or still have them in their sheds never to be seen again so they arn't investing in new stock. Don't know how true it is but Flowgas have no intention as far as I know to stop supply.

I'll see how much I use in the next year before considering Gaslows s I've been on hook up a lot.
