Hi I've just bought a 240v / 12v TV however it came wired with 240V plug all good, but in the box was a 240V to 12V plug/ adaptor. I cant think what this would be used for. ie if you have a 240v supply you would just plug the TV 240v plug in? or am I missing something here.

Hi Dave, where is your Avatar pic from, Oludeniz?
Many 240v TV's ara actually 12 volt inside but fed by a 240 v -12 volt transformer.

For when your not on mains hook up..BUSBY.

Hi popeye, yes Oludeniz two years ago, brilliant fun once you take off! Our TV works off of the 240 pre wired plug, I just cant see a situation where you would plug in the 240 to 12v adaptor? I've ordered a 12v cigarette lighter plug for it so hopefully it will plug into 12v supply in van and work?

NO that wont work as its 240 down to 12v so you would need a 240 supply?

Start again.
Your tv is a 12volt item stop.
At home you give it 230volt which is not right.
So the black box cuts 230v down to 12v and the tv works.
Your next choice is when in your moho it to use ehu all the time to run your tv 230v down to 12v or do away with that lead and feed it just 12v (y)

Better to make up or buy a new 12v lead.
Some TV's don't like the 14.4 v the batteries get up to when charging. If it works for the first year it should be fine. If it does go pop you can send it back under warranty with the power supply and not mention you have run it direct on 12v

:LOL: Good plan, sneaky but good :rofl:

Is the lead and mains plug which came attached to the TV permanently wired like the lead on a toaster or microwave or can it be removed from the TV.

I cannot see the point in a 230v lead AND a 230v to 12v lead.... You need 230v to supply either lead. .

Look at the data label on the back of the TV to check the input voltage, it will be either 230v OR 12v but not both.

The TV 240 lead is attached to the TV as with any normal electrical appliance, the TV runs fine when plugged into the mains.

Absolutely papajohn , hence my original post, in case I was mistaken.

It's been wrongly packed then.
It's a 230v TV.
A 230v/12v TV would only have the lead with the transformer plug or a transformer box moulded in the lead.
The label on the back of the TV will confirm the input voltage.
