Hope to go abroad this year.

On previous van bought headlamp protectors and stuck the tape onto them.
Is that a solution, if so, where is the cheapest place to get them or are the sticker size just as good?
2019 Fiat ducato Globecar

Thank you

Understand that using the stick on Eurolite or similar beam benders can cause discolouration to the headlamps if used for prolonged periods so we have Airplex protectors & use tape like mentioned above & on post #3 here https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/foru...vc-modding-accessories-discount-codes.184590/
We bought ours from Van Comfort website but may be a better price via their eBay listings https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?_...=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=airplex&_sacat=0 as they were cheapest at the time but depending on model needed also try http://www.motorcaravanning.co.uk/shopuk/polycarbonate_protectors.htm for Airplex.
EGR brand here but don't know if they fit as well as Airplex https://www.motorhomeessentials.com/headlight-protectors.html

We normally fit Eurolite to our Ducati headlights at the end of March and leave them on until the end of September as we are in France during that time. In fourteen years of doing so we have had no problems with discolouration of lenses.

Had seen this mentioned on here by Funsters but good to know that is not always the case.

I bought a set of beam defectors when I first drove in Europe in 1983, reckon I've done above 1.5 million miles on the other side of the road since then.

I've carried them with me in my European tools box ever since. Its entirely possible that one day I may open the packaging and fit them, meanwhile they stay in the box with the spare bulbs and fuses (for a merc 208), a european accident declaration form, a tabard (or two), two breatherlsisers (God forbid), two warning triangles, a tin of Spam, some gaffe tape and a toilet roll wrapped in a plastic bag.

Yep that is correct they should only be left on plastic headlamps for a few weeks at most. The adhesive migrates into the plastic.

I wonder if anyone has any evidence of this or is it just a marketing ploy to make you remove them, so destroying them, and having to buy new.

See my post #3 above. Six months is more than a few weeks and we have never experienced discolouration.

Still, if it worries anyone they will probably feel better if they follow the instructions. Eurolite are cheap enough on eBay, especially if you buy a multi pack. We bought a pack of five sets four years ago, using one set each year. Doesn’t look like I’ll need the fifth set for quite a while yet.

No point in worrying about something if you can “rectify” it for about a fiver., especially if you believe “better safe than sorry”.

When I used to sell Eurolites (I was selling 200-300 a month) I would get the odd complaint from customers who had left them on too long. The information from the manufacturers is not to leave them on for more than a few weeks.
I left a pair on some headlamp protectors for about a year I was never able to fully polish out the damage they did.
I certainly wouldn't leave them on plastic headlamps for more than a month.

EDIT:

Especially with X290 headlamps costing £450 each.

I don't bother with stickers, I use the dash mounted headlamp adjuster & put them as low as they can go - never had a problem

Providing your lights can be set so they do not dazzle other road users you don't need to use converters for trips of less than 90 days but it does depend on how each country interoperates the guidelines.
The only problem is the French sometimes have a purge around the channel ports and if you haven't got converters on you are lightly to get an on the spot fine.

I bought a set of protectors from Motorhome Essentials https://www.motorhomeessentials.com/ at a show & stuck the deflectors to those. Permanently left on van but can easily be removed if required. They do mail order as well.
