Hi all
I am looking at trying to fit some internal fans on the fins in my 2019 tower unit fridge.
If I remove the cooling fins do they just unscrew and pull off, I am looking to get a wire through the same hole as the thermostat cable.
Thanks

Hi,

Mal did his and I think he may have put it on the FB page.
It does make quite a difference.

Hi Rob
Yes I know Mal did this I have read his thread and he took the feed through this hole but the only way to get the wire through is to remove the cooling fins from what I can see.
Not sure if they are on the type of fixings that trap a surface and i dont want to remove the fins and then the back part with the thread in it fall down behind the fridge, hope this makes sense

I fitted a 92mm to the fins in our fridge a few years back, really to circulate the air around the fridge for a more even temperature throughout the fridge.
Did it drop the temperature drastically, no, maybe 1 to 2 degrees C at the fan thermostat which is at the front of the fridge away from the cooling fins.

I drilled small holes in the fins and used cable ties to mount the fan.
The fan is controlled by a Chinese digital temperature controller and the cables exit via the drip tube.
The fan is not the run of the mill computer fans, bur a high CFM model.

Fridge is not on in the photo hence the temperatures on the readouts.

Ok so starting to get somewhere as i now have the cable through the fridge ready to connect to the 12v supply.

Can anyone recommend some fans for both inside the fridge and outside on the top vent, i was thinking of this one, 2 outside and 1 inside, thoughts please

This is our top vent fan setup, 3 x 140mm fans that can be individually switched on or off at the fans.
Probably a bit over the top for what you have in mind.

Top vent fans that I used, high output but quiet with it.

Internal fan I used is only 14mm thick rather than the standard 25mm thick, so less intrusion into the shelf for foodstuffs.

Makes perfect sense Shawn, I would like to do mine at some point.

I'm upgrading ours at the weekend. Can't get to the fridge side of the van in the garage. Bought some Arctic F12s. I've fitted a series/parallel switch for fast and slow modes, an SMD red LED and connector block 😎

Only uses 70ma in series mode 👌😎

This MAY be of interest to you before you get into it too far.

The problem with fitting a fan inside is that the thermostat is designed for a static evaporator and has a switch off temp of typically -5°c.

Maybe it can be turned right up to +2c I don't know what the range on them is, but left alone with a fan circulating air it wouldn't switch off until the whole fridge is frozen (probably unachievable) The fridge will run continuously and use more gas/electric. Probably why grandad sees a lower temp 😏

When this conversion is done to a domestic compressor fridge the stat needs changing to a bottle cooler type which have a range something like -2 to +11c
