Please can anyone help with advice acceleration has a power lag only when under load, but revs ok when on a standstill ,also can anyone recommend a good old diagnostic meter for home mechanic

Unfortunately, it could be any of several problems. See this web-page : Power loss

For diagnostics, if you have a windows laptop, you can run MultiEcuScan for Ducatos.
You will need special cables to access the ecu's properly - Cables and software

Good luck

Thrash it . ie Italian tune up. If that doesn’t work, revert to Plan A.

Sorry ponder what’s plan A
Plan A is to do it by the book, which,in my case, would be to take it to my local garage (not main dealer).

The reason I said thrash it is because a good long run at a good speed in third or fourth will often do the engine a power of good . By that I mean keeping the revs up above 3000 at least for at least 20 minutes. Diesel engines like to be worked and often do not take kindly to pottering about at low revs.

Thanks for that,I tend to be a bit timid with the accelerator I give that a shot, 90 % of the time it revs ok,but I have noticed loss of power 2 times last time was on motor way so a bit worried thanks anyway

You need a obd2 reader that speaks Fiat there are 2 used in the diy world
Windows laptop and multiecuscan (as previously mentioned) or Alfaobd for Windows.
Android phone, tablet and alfaobd . Specific obd2 dongles are also needed as as not all talk Fiat. Gendan is a distributor for both mes and USB dongle . For Bluetooth I use a vgate from ebay seller in Porthcawl s Wales they work, cheap £10 ones do not. To use other ecus you will need a yellow adapter.
I use a win10 obdsx USB dongle and multiecuscan
Alfaobd Samsung j6 phone a8 or tabA tablet and vgate. More detail in previous threads

There's a tool for getting it back together so it doesn't leak , even if the garage is doing it I'd buy one for them to use having had one leak that looked tight ,it stinks for days

Not on a 2018 van they changed the filter with euro5 engined vans around 2012-13 now an aluminium canister.

Go look at the vacuum hoses for the turbo pressure sensor. Open the bonnet and it straight in front of you. We had a mouse chew one of the blanking plugs. Engine would rev at stand still but under load it had no oomph

Hi, just a thought; did you touch the brake pedal at the same time as the accelerator. This can cause the engine to power off for several seconds.

I've done it when overtaking as I have touched the brake pedal changing gear. First time the power just disappeared and I wondered what had happened.

It's a possibility to be aware of. Fiat Ducatos cut the power for a few seconds and you have to take your feet off the pedals. Other manufacturers just cut the power while you are touching the brake pedal so you would probably never notice.

If it's not this then I hope you find the cause.
