The glass hob on my cooker has cracked and needs replacing. Its a Dynaxo 2 hob unit. Have inquired from Germany and a new unit is around £800. Has anyone changed one for a more conventional gas hob and if so how?

Not long enough!
Is there not a glazing manufacturer who could make you one?

a sheet of glass could be cut, drilled, polished and hardened, however for what it does, using fragile glass seems ridiculous. a piece of 6mm acrylic would do the same job, look the same but not break again

Should have explained the hob in more detail. It is more like a ceramic hob but with a flat glass surface that the pans sit on over the gas burners. Have seen photo's of similar knaus models that have had a proper gas hob fitted and was hoping that a funster had done something similar.
