Anyone have any experience or comments on the 2006 Fiat 2.8 engine. I currently have a Tansit 2.4 2009 which drives really well.

I was wondering if the older engine and 5 speed box will not feel as refined and also about MPG.

I have the 2.8 jtd 2006 which has been remapped to reduce gearchanging and improve mpg it is a good engine and reliable and pulls my autotrail very well ,as for the ford engine I cant speak as I have no experience but have seen many fly past me on the motorway

My 2.8 JTD is unmapped and runs ok. It is on a Lunar Champ low profile. I get around 25mpg when running at around 55mph

since 2006 ( I think ! )
Yup.. Our Miller was a preface lift pug ( 2006 on 2007 plate ) with the 2.8 JTD and five speed box..
Fantastic lump and no issues with the gearbox at all.. Good solid bits of kit

2005 2.8jtd for me - efficient and suits my van well.

Have driven newer 6sp 2.4 transit and tbh think it's a better drive than mine.
More torque, more at the bottom end, 5th / 6th better above 50mph more enjoyable than 4th/5th in the Fiat.

Transit seems more willing to hit 80+, although haven't tried it in either van !

My 2.8 felt much more powerful than my modern 2.3 although they are similar H.P.
I would trust the 2.8 on any Alpine pass, not so sure about this one. Its easier to drive but it doesn't have the grunt.
