Hello ... looking for advice as I am due to part-ex my current MH in late summer. First - I have 2 11kg autogas bottles ... is it normal to remove them to use in my next MH, or should I leave them? Second - I can get a better part-ex price by giving up my MH in July- rather than wait until September when the new one is due .... that puts the “value “ of my MH at risk for a couple of months... should I expect the dealer to pay me the part ex value for the interim, or the dealer keep it until I pay the balance on collection of the new MH?

I have been surprised how little detail the dealers who have given me a part ex value have seemed to need.... the extras like external gas point... deadlocks... gas bottles... seem to be of little interest?

My experience is that when we have bought there were no cylinders included and we had to purchase. Therefore when we bought our last motorhome we retained the 2 cylinders.

No expert but I'd be reluctant to give up my motorhome 2 months in advance. Although a better price is achieved you may expose yourself to risk. As you are in effect transferring property to them for a credit on their accounts, if they folded or went under I don't know how you would stand in terms of being a creditor of that company. You may have no right to your vehicle back as they likely want it sooner to sell it. If they pay you then that's a sale and your risk is minimised but they may not be as keen to do this.

In terms of bottles keep yours I do unless I know I'm getting an equivalent or better in return.....same with the battery.

I wouldnt give up current motorhome until the new one actually lands

After experience of last PE I would remove as many extras that you have added as you can without leaving holes etc as you don’t get any more for them, unless of course you did a private sale which probably would not be PE🤔

Remove anything that was not standard kit on your existing MH unless it would cause major damage (eg awnings, deadlocks etc) as the dealer won't give you any more money for them.

As you're doing a PX you should already have agreed a price with the dealer for your existing MH and the price for the new one so that wouldn't change whether you gave it up in July or September. The only way you will likely get more is to sell it privately and/or to a dealer/trader who is looking to buy them now, there's no harm in ringing and asking some what they would offer (without your extra bits such as refillable gas) so you can see which is the better option for you and then decide whether you want to PX it or sell it yourself.

As for timing, if selling it yourself or to another dealer/trader, the sooner the better. You could ask your selling dealer if they will just buy it from you in July instead of a PX in September and pay you immediately when you let them have it (NOT let them keep the money on account) as this is also likely to benefit them more but do NOT under any circumstances do this as an early PX for the reasons indicated by others earlier.

Another thing to think about, others have let their MHs go early to a dealer or sold privately and then found that their new MH has been delayed so they end up MH-less for a lot longer than expected, so if you are likely to want to have a MH after September are you willing to risk it happening to you?

Gas bottles often the dealer will swap them to the new van for you, ours did without charge.
No way part with your van until you collect the new van, as if the dealer goes bump you will have lost it. Same with deposits never give more than you can afford to lose we have only ever given a 1k deposit on a new van.

One other thing ... if you DO go ahead with a PX see if they will transfer the refillable gas system across as part of the deal, no harm in asking!

Agree with Cheshirecat57. Probably best to wait, you never know in this present climate( not to jinx it  ) what will happen
