I had a floaty front end and loud bangs over pot holes....... Nothing to compare it to but following advice here on the forum ordered new shocks, top caps, bearings and bump stops for my Ducato Maxi 1999. Must dig out who offered the sound advice!
Oh boy were the old units knackered..... Almost no bump stop and one shock difficult to pull out and the other almost no oil left!

2 Top cap and bearing that feels like it is full of grit.
