Swift Bolero EK600

Getting there owner since 2021
So we finally picked up our Swift Bolero 600EK last week and as it's our first motorhome there's a lot to learn! But it's exciting and enjoyable times.
Due to my wife's impatience/excitement we had booked into a lovely quiet but we'll run site in Glendaruel the day after collecting and driving 220 miles back from Preston only to discover we had no gas bottle with the motorhome (schoolboy error)
I had an old 13kg bottle from my days as a roofer of 30+ years lying around 3/4 full and it fitted in the locker easily enough but the restraints did not fit the bottle so travelled with it lying down until arrival.
Anyone got any ideas for restraining it upright and connected as it will quickly become a pain, or am I better just going for 2x6kg which will fit? I quite like the idea of having the extra space that the 13kg as it allows me to fit my hookup and hose in the locker.

Can you not just fit longer straps to the bottle cradle, or you may need to fit a new cradle.

You should never travel with them on their side. Any gas leak and it will be liquid, with which the expansion ratio will be huge.

I know people do, but I wouldn’t.

I unscrewed the restraints on a caravan and replaced with buckle straps to fit a larger bottle, would that work?

Never even considered any ramifications of it on it's side but that's made me think. Buckle straps are a good idea and easy enough to do. Definitely worth a try.

It's a plastic ring that fits over the top of the bottle to secure but they are too small. Buckle straps should give me better options for securing hopefully.

The problem with running single gas bottle is that you have to keep an eye on its level, but when you have two, you can relax a bit until one runs out, you then know you are half way through your supply. So if you go with single bottle it may be worth considering one of the Bluetooth gauges that are available. For me I like to carry as much gas as possible, that way I never get concerned about how much remains.

I did consider the 2 bottles for that very reason. You always have a full bottle that way. Well in principle you do anyway.

Hello and welcome from West Midlands. 👍
You can obtain the straps, cradles and mountings from most motorhome/caravan dealer and,of course, online.

Hello bmc65
If you can fit two 6kg safely that would be the way to go, for the reasons that have been mentioned.
It’s also not so hard on the pocket
Before starting a trip. We have found the high usage times are cooking a Christmas dinner and using the blow are heating.

2 x 11kg maybe or you could use cam lock straps or cable ties for the moment

One of the many advantages to refillable gas bottles is that their sizes are different. So in our van we could only have 2X6kg bottles, couldn't go bigger, with refillable we could get 2X11kg. So you may be able to go for different size options. Either one big, two small, or a mix.

I did see the mention of roofing, so maybe has access to to bottles more easily than a refillable system.
