Hold fire ... I'm not totally convinced that hubby has given me the 'correct' mileage figure so I'll sneak out later and check whilst he takes the dogs for a walk and report back! :D
Darn it, one of these days I will learn NOT to trust what my hubby tells me when it comes to remembering figures!

The ACCURATE figures are:

miles covered: 4242
litres used: 668.79
average miles per litre: 6.34
average miles per gallon: 28.86

Which is more like I expected as we do go up lots of mountain roads, and hubby likes the fast pedal!

Can anyone say what is the actual engineering difference between the 130 and the 150. As in bigger injectors, different exhaust, remapped/chipped. Or a bigger block, or head etc.
Thanks

Well that`s our 13th year & still loving it.
When we bought our from new 2.3ltr 130bhp it gave an abysmal 21-24 mpg for the first 6000 miles we then had it remapped and now it gives between 27 -31mpg. Mostly motorway driving.

Obviously working a lot harder than our 3ltr autotrail Arapaho which had also been remapped and gave 30mph all day long.

After driving my brothers fait 2.3 fait motorhome 3.5 ton I was most impressed with the car like drive and the way it went .
But I did expect it to do more than 27mpg on same 2700 mile journey as me in 2.7 sprint shift sprinter. Autotrail 3.800+ .
I averaged 25mpg we only potter along at 55-60 as I find as long as I don,t go over 2,000 revs most of the time.
But I do like the balls of the Merc when you need it, but you do have a lot more feeling through the steering wheel.

The 150-variant has a variable geometry turbocharger unit fitted; the 130 does not, hence the lower umph for the 130.

All units are single turbo;)

We get 31MPG doing mixed driving and motorway at 60 to 70MPH
Our van is the 150BHP euro5+ extra high top long wheelbase so is a bit of a brick aerodynamically.
Got over 33MPG to St Annes from Leeds this weekend, took it a bit easier but had 3 adults bikes full water tank full 120ltr diesel tank and big fat parrot in cage.

Should've tied the parrot to the roof ... he could have helped with propulsion and you'd have got even better MPG. :D

Bonjour everybody and a Happy New year from France .
Just thought Id look at what other peoples aveage MPG is on the fiat 130 and all seems pretty much as ours at 10.8 Ltrs to 100 kms or 26.1 MPG. Its stayed at this figure now for a year and seems about right . I tend to keep the revs anout 2000 to 2500 on all roads and am very happy with the mpg . Just dome a trip to South of France ( 2000 kms ) inc passing through the Massif Central.

Totaly depends on the van, weight aerodynamics etc., and in the scheme of overall cost does it really matter.
Our Low profile Hymer with a 130 Euro 4used to get 27-28, last van Exsis A Class with a 150 Euro5+, 25-26, current BDL A Class with 150 Euro 6, 22-23, it's taller and heavier, all quite good for bricks on wheels. Last one not run in yet only done 3k will probably improve after another 10k.
Hi Lenny hope your well , just in France at moment, our compactline 150 bhp is getting 26/27 mpg fully loaded average 65/70 mph , I think that’s good 👍

Our 130bhp, Euro 6, 2019, 9k miles, weight in use about 3900kg, gives us 25-27 MPG on the dial. We usually don't fly around and sit at 60mph on the motorway. Talking to other fiat van owners, they say they are not really run-in until they get to 25k miles. I will try a full-to-full calculation on our next run and post that result.
Very interesting thread. Safe travels all.

So do I BUT. We all know speedos read around 10% high, if the odometer also does then that puts our mpg about 10% high too. One day I will get around to checking.
I have an OBD digital display that gets the speed from the ECU. It reads correctly but the needle on the speedo display shows a bit higher. So the calculated consumption should be based on an accurate speed.

I had a Dethleffs 7.4m, 3.5 tonne max for 6 years with the 150 engine. Like an anorak, I kept a log of diesel put in tank (always to the top) and mileage since last fill AND total diesel bought and mileage done in those 6 years.
Nearly always used cruise control on motorways/autoroutes and rarely exceeded 60mph unless overtaking.
Over the 6 years and around 32,000 miles, the average was 27.2mpg.

Our current Euro 5 150bhp has averaged 30.7mpg in the last 7,000 miles at approx 60mph target speed on motorways. Our previous van, with the 130bhp engine returned about 27mpg under similar long term conditions.

We have recently gone from a manual 130bhp ( 34 mpg ) to a auto 150bhp ( 28 mpg ) travelling at 60 - 65 mph on motorways.

Mpg been rising as engine loosens , after last service early this year , steady 65mpg loaded it’s gone up from 27 to just over 30mpg (I check on full tank full up and do the maths and compare vs dash clock and it’s pretty close and accurate in fairness)
So my guesstimate it’s improved 1 mpg on average since new (13,500 miles) so in 10 yrs be 40mpg 😂😎

On a fill to fill basis the fuel computer consumption readings on my 3.0 litre Ducato X250 are over optimistic by around 20%
Hi Xabia, we are currently considering a 3lt B544 2008 which I'm guessing, is around the same as you have. You didn't mention what consumption you actually get...or think you might average? I would be interested to know what mpg you get, for reference? Thanks

My last four have all done somewhere between 25 and 28mpg on average in almost all circumstances.

My current 150 has a lifetime average of 27.1 (from the dash reading).

This summer we spent four weeks in Holland where virtually all driving was on perfectly flat, beautifully smooth, non congested motorways at about 65mph and guess what? it returned 27.5mpg.

Looks like you can't change it much.

Summat wrong with that one then. Even allowing trading tolerances you shouldn't be more than 5% out. (unless the wheel size has been changed since new.
