We only ever use our 12v sockets in the van for charging tablets and phone.
How easy is it to convert these to usb charging points
What sort so my experienced friends recommend we look to install and are there any pitfalls we should be aware of before we do this

Thanks

A doddle and very useful upgrade!

I opted for adding USB points across the van in areas of need and kept the sockets as well.

Some live while driving and then off on arrival and no ignition and others that are live when the hab 12v is turned on.

It all enhances your journey and the ability for the van to support your needs now and into the future.

Why change ??
Invest in a good quality plug in adaptor, best of both worlds.

Got both in our van 😎

The USB ones are good on the dash because the adapters get moved and keep disconnecting.

But it's important to get good quality ones because they aren't as easy to change when the Chinese electronics let go, also the ones with an off switch are better.

I tested and fitted a couple of these aluminium ones:

Be wary of cheap Chinese types. I have used a few and they generated alot of heat so i stopped using them.
Try www.12voltplanet.co.uk
They do the built in type as well that may match your existing sockets.
Easy to fit as well using their pre wired kits.

Thanks everyone for your comments. We are now back home and going to look for a solution at leisure looking at the helpful links provided.

the motor bike usbs in the sockets were i think what causes it to blow the fuse. The one we used was not a cheepy one.
so we will look to replace at least one of of the 12v sockets with a usb socket

If you have the 12v charges like these....

The middle can come out and be replaced with the above keeping the original housing and surrounding
