I currently use a butane gas soldering iron when in the van, which I find is pretty useless. It seems to melt/burn everything that comes near it (including me) and has great difficulty in melting solder.
I've toyed with the idea of using a 240v iron via the inverter but thought maybe a 12v model might be more efficient.

What's wrong with a hot screwdriver?

Two options I can suggest.

First is the most expensive, if you have any cordless power tools, Ryobi do a lovely 18v one, I've only got one ryobi battery but I'm a dewalt user so I've got a dewalt to ryobi adapter, and it's a very nice unit.

The second option, if you can find one, a couple of months back, lidl had a handy little usb c rechargeable one available at £15, I picked one up and it's actually quite good.

They all seem to be much of a muchness - Chinese and cheap
Unless you are a professional and want a Milwaukee one - OUCH!

I would use a regular 230v one from the inverter - They are low wattage so not a problem

I've got a silverline one for sale at shows. Can't say how good they are bit they are cheap.

A decent gas soldering iron is hard to beat. I have a professional one at home and an ALDI cheapo in the van. Both work extremely well.

I have one of those and it's fine for making electrical connections on circuit boards, mains wiring, for doing lightweight soldering work (and for making small neat holes in plastic items).
Haven't done that for years as it stinks and mucks the tip up 😁 I use a cone cutter or step drill bit for holes now👍

A couple of the few things I tend not to carry in the m/h. ;)
I don't carry them either, I take very few tools with us. I think in the unlikely event I'll need something I'll buy it ☺️
In 8 years I think I've only bought some Allen keys and a piece of flex... Oh some 15a strip connector too 🤔
