I want to run 12v device in 12v socket in habitation area. But it’s only live with ignition turned off.
Does anyone know how to make it live with ignition on

(I appreciate the problem of running down the leisure battery )

Thanks in advance

Swift use Sargent control systems for the habitation power and the UK specification is that habitation power cannot be energised while the engine is running.

I expect the Sargent controller is sensing the Ignition live and switching on the habitation power only when the ignition key is in the off position.

You need to run an new socket from the vehicle circuit

Assuming you want to use a cigar lighter type plug, why not take a fused lead direct from leisure batteries and fit one of these where you want it....

If it is a USB lead you want to use, fit one of these....

Beaten again Doh!!:D

Another vote for running a seperate feed and socket.
Easier than messing about with the vans system.
It's a UK spec / build thing where the hab electrics go off while moving. No idea why..

Can anyone come up with a LOGICAL reason for that?. We can use the inverter to run the Slow cooker, whilst travelling. Result?. HOT meal on arrival(y)

National caravan Council recommendation I believe.
No standing in law like anything else they say.

Is it NCC or just a Sargent thing? My IH is British and has the NCC Approved Tick on the side. The 12v is active with the engine/ignition on.

Well, you learn something new every day...........like some vans don’t have hab electricity whilst engine is running.
So........how does the hab battery ever get charged, other than through ehu??
Or,am I being thick....again?

The leisure batteries are charged by the alternator when the engine is running.

I believe it's the cheap way out to avoiding EMC testing of the whole hab side for certification purposes with respect to, say, YourGadget in the hab area trigging an airbag or ABS brakes, sort of thing. Pure nonsense, every other country manages it OK.

Pull out the relay and fit a nice thick wire link. Or maybe it's not so simple with the Sargent controller.

..or in an accident, knocked out by slow cooker flying forward and then burned by contents.

The clue is in the word "caravan". Nobody is in a caravan when it is being towed so no electrics needed. Then the rule was mindlessly applied to these new fangled motorhomes. Most British motorhome manufacturers came very late to the motorhome party.

Doubtful in the extreme, Because the S-C sits in the kitchen sink and is behind the cross panel which has the massive seatbelt frame in front of it. We did it a lot in the USA and it works well.
