Many years
Might be worth just changing those sockets for "normal" 12volt spckets instead? Dead easy job to do, and thereafter all normal 12 volt plugs will fit in them.

They're Hella plugs and make a better electrical contact than the "standard" cigar lighter ones. There was a thread on here the other day about the standard ones overheating. We have the Hella ones in our Burstner and I bought replacement plugs from The Range for a couple of our 12 volt things but also bought a Hella to Cigar adaptor off ebay.

Those sockets are just a copper (if your lucky) or coloured aluminium tube and rely on fraction between that and the plug side prongs to hold the plug in.....unreliable, and possibly a fire risk in my view.

Thanks peeps I just couldn't remember the name of them... I prefer them to the UK ones definitely connect better and having just melted a UK socket on my tyre inflater they are definitely better made

Off to eBay

Most UK low current "stuff" come with the UK style ones fitted. Just avoid running high currents off them. I-Pads, phones etc; are OK. But anything "power hungry" is best run NOT using them. Having said that my Laptop Charger has the UK style one and is in it`s 5th+ year of use?.
