Please can anyone help, we have a Dethleffs Globeus with a Dometic AES 3 way fridge.

The 12v is wired into the electroblok EBL101 - and uses the Leisure Battery when parked. Is it possible to isolate the capability of it using the Leisure battery when parked? It keeps being left on 12v and it drains the battery pretty quickly if forgotten.

Ideally I would like to still be able to use 12v while driving.

Thanks

It is normal for the 12v supply for a 3-way fridge to only operate off the alternator, when the engine is running.

Someone who knows more about an EBL 101 will be able to help you

A Dometic 3way AES fridge should automatically switch to gas or 240v when there is no engine running sensor voltage I.e. when parked.
Regardless of wether it is wired to hab or cab battery.

Ours used to do that,we just had a big note by the door saying 'Put fridge on gas,,'

Pull the 20 amp fuse on the EBL marked AES, it should still work with the engine running.
Our first Hymer did that, the last only run on 12V if you select it manually apart from the 15min after turning the engine off.

Just reread your post.. Are you saying you keep leaving it on 12v?
Why have you not got automatic (A) selected then you don't have to worry about leaving it on 12v... it will sort it's self out.

It's quite common on German vans if no other power source is available, see my post above.

Thank you. Will give this a try. 👍

We turn the gas off when travelling so our worry is if you park up….say to go shopping, and you don’t turn the gas back on then the system will
Detect no gas and switch to 12v and then you’ve no power after an hour…

This is plan B…if pulling the fuse doesn’t work 😂 or only use the van in winter so the beer doesn’t warm up if the fridge is turned off when travelling?

It should run off the alternator when travelling 👍

Don't turn the gas off and fit a secumotion regulator? Sorry it's not cheap...

Pull the 20 amp fuse on the EBL marked AES, it should still work with the engine running.
To add a bit more info, the fuse is marked 'nur mit Kompr/AES Kuhlshrank einsetzen' = insert only with compressor or AES fridge. Removing this fuse stops it running from the leisure battery. When the engine is running, it will still be powered from the alternator/starter battery.

If there is any special circumstance when you need to run the fridge from the leisure battery, you can re-insert the fuse. For example going through the channel tunnel. The leisure battery should not be excessively depleted just by stopping for a couple of hours, so most shopping trips should be OK anyway. But several hours of fridge use can drain a battery, which is why most MHs don't have this option.

I find it useful on a ferry crossing, but that's with 300Ah of lithium battery to go at.

As fridges/freezers will stay cold for 24hrs on the Spanish ferry crossings with no power input there's no need to complicate the matter fiddling about with fuses!

Ours will not work off the 12V if the engine is not running. Not even it you want it too!

We had a similar problem with our Adria - it was running off the leisure battery when the engine was running. Our dealer couldn’t understand why, neither could a Dometic engineer. Eventually contacted Adria direct and were told by a senior engineer there to remove the fuse, saying that the van would not have left the factory with that fuse in. The problem arose after the van had been serviced. Did someone notice the fuse wasn’t there and put one in?

we bought the van second hand, so who knows what anyone has done along the way...thanks for the info, we will remove the fuse and see what happens

Thanks for the extra information, it all helps. We have 100Ah lithium, which you would have thought would be man for the job, if we forgot, for at least a couple of hours, but nope....give it an hour and you are sat in the dark.

You should be able to run the fridge for about 5 hours and still have plenty of power left if your battery was fully charged..

I have a similar big fridge, which takes about 15A for the heater element. With a 100Ah lithium battery that's 100/15 = 6.7 hours of continuous power. And if the thermostat is cutting in, it will only be powered about 50% of the time, so it should last 13.3 hours. If it's not lasting a couple of hours, There's a problem somewhere.
