I’m a newbie
Hi i am going to buy a fan for the van. Do I need to get A 12v fan as we will mainly be using EHU?

If I have to get a12v fan I only have 2 12v sockets one in the cab and oneby the TV is there’s such a thing as an adapter that allows you to use a 3 pin plug socket

many help appreciated

Get a rechargeable one. Best of both worlds. Charge from 240 socket using standard phone charging lead and plug, then run without power when you need to. (y)We use them all the time and they run most of the night when really sticky. We keep one running on the dogs whilst travelling too.

We did have a 12v fan but we have 12v sockets all over the van though it did eventually burn out through overwork in the South of France last year (average temps in the day 40°C for a week)

to work a 12v fan from 240v you need a 12v phone STYLE power supply
Don't bother with the USB fans they are useless

rechargable are OK if they last long enough for your needs which they should
240v are fine just remember when we can eventually our Europe some sites only offer 6 amps so with fridge charger and hot water you haven't got a lot left

Rechargeable fans get my vote too - I have a couple from Argos, and they are very useful in that they can be easily placed just where you need them. At present, they are doing good work in the house, keeping us and the dogs cool at night!

Yes - those are the ones (Dimplex) - they look small but move the air about nicely and, being compact, they are easy to place where you need them!

We use mains fans. Either a mini tower fan on the kitchen unit, or a clip-on 6" fan for the bed.

I used usb ones, and they are ok if they are top of you but not much general use. I have some 12v usbs near the beds, but like you one 12v in the cab and by the telly and nothing fits in it.

Hi, where did you get your rechargable fans from? This sounds exactly what we've been looking for. Thanks

We used to have a mains one in the ceiling, I changed it for a 12v one as you can use that whether you have hook up or not. We've got an inverter but the mains fan guzzles 2 amps even on low, the 12v ones are only about half that. I also have a USB one for my feet sticking out at night :giggler:

Is it noisy? Have you got any speed control on it?
Yes a small fan speed controller. Virtually silent up until about half speed, more of a whisper. Noisier above that but never have it on that fast - being a car fan it moves quite a lot of air out of the roof vent.

I've just found a mains fan in a cupboard under the fridge we've been carrying around for years and never used. Bought an "Endless Breeze" couple of years ago (12v) which we've used a few times but it gets in the way a bit.
Now considering replacing the hab aircon unit, which we never use as it needs 240v and we're hardly ever on a suitable hookup, with a Maxxfan which we can use all the time. Has both "suck" and "blow" and looks to be very quiet on low speeds. Fits directly into the hole the aircon unit uses and will give us extra light over the cooking area - as well as being a lot lighter (more payload!).

Interesting thread.
I've a spare smallish mains fan heater that has a "summer" mode but now think a USB fan could help.
Like a Efluky Three-Speed Mini Desk Fan
Amazon product ASIN B013B06HCU
I'll see what SWMBO says.

EDIT: It wasn't a random selection I used Bing for a "usb fan best review uk" search ;)

Mark fitted a Maxxfan over the bed as that's the only place it fits, then by using a separate fan at the front (Endless Breeze) we can keep the air moving at both ends of the van.
