Okay if you've followed my posts you'll know I've had issues with the batteries and connections.

Fitted new engine battery and reworked all of the connectors. Changed leisure batteries today and tidied up the wiring connectors which were an absolute mess. All looks really good now BUT ...

On looking at the gauges, I noted that there was a negative drain on the leisure batteries despite everything turned off and being on hook up... Any ideas? Thank you. ❤️ 😷🇫🇷

Is it possible that you have inverted the gauge wires during the tidy up and the draw is actually the charging current

Everything is possible I guess. I was ridiculously careful with the separation of the original wires but yes of course what you suggest is possible. I guess it's one wire at a time to isolate... Needs must I suppose. ❤️

If you disconnect the hook up and the ‘drain’ stops it should avoid having to mess with the wiring just yet

Yeah I'll try that first... One question if I may. You think I might have inverted the gauge wires during the rewire.... What wires exactly do you think might have been mismatched? I did keep all the positives and negatives taped up separately so a cross wire is a bit confusing for me so any steer you could give me would be appreciated. Thanks. John

If, as you say, the wiring was chaotic when you started, is it possible that some of the chaos crept into the original connection points?

Yes of course it is. The thing is as with all second hand vehicles, add ons from previous owners vary in quality. This is very much the case with me. Its a long shot asking above, but deep down I know what I have to do and that is trace each wire as best possible and figure it out for myself. Thanks again for your inputs. ❤️

Sometimes people add accessories or make wiring changes that bypass the device that is measuring the current. I had an atuto electrician transfer my Victron BMV battery monitor from my old to my new motorhome. Even he got it wrong by connecting one device directly to the negative pole of the battery so that it bypassed the shunt.

Okay update for you all... Wiring plan has gone to plan... Using blade connection panel, all neeat and tidy now. Quite a few wires traced and removed as surplus to requirements. The inverter was the issue for the drain. I did not know that even turned off as such, it still drew power from the leisure side. Also a re set of the main connections seems to have helped. Next on the agenda is to make sure that the leisure batteries are being charged by the engine side... It's all go isn't it? Thanks all. ❤️
