I am wanting to use a whale submersible pump with a portable water carrier to fill my onboard water tank for those occasions when I am not near a convenient water tap. I am struggling to wire up the 12volt cigarette type plug. It is not like a 13 amp type plug and after preparing the necessary live/neutral wires I think that I will have to solder them to the blades inside the plug as there are no screws etc to attach them to. I do not think that crimping them to the blades will be secure enough.

Help please.

Crimps are quite secure if the correct size and the right crimping tool are used. A photograph of the terminals would be useful.

EDIT Brian is faster lol

on and off for the whole of my existance
no ends for your wires!

Hi,
I would imagine the spade connectors you have on your 12 volt socket will require a pair of 'female spade connectors' to complete the job...

Like these Link Removed

you will then need to 'crimp' the connector onto the wire.

Just wondering, have you fitted a fuse in the positive side of the wireing.....better safe than sorry......

If you need any more assistance please do ask....

Thanks for replies.

The plug is the type that would fit into the cigarette lighter and /or the van's 12 volt sockets. One screw secured both halves of the plug. Inside the plug there is the pin for the live feed and the other part is the 'wings' for the neutral wire. The plug and the wings merely have a flat blade or spade for the wires to rest on and I think that I will have to buy a soldering iron or a crimping tool to make secure connections.

Most likely not enough room in the plug to accommodate crimps. Be sure to solder the parts while not in contact with the plastic housing

I have not used a soldering iron before but my best bet I think would be to buy or borrow one and solder the wires on to the blades.
